Matt and Deb,

I am amazed at how you guys keep coming up with new resources! Sharon was just so stunning! I have never seen a bad photograph of her. I always believe that she could have done so much better for herself than Roman.

Thanks, Matt and Deb. Incredible pictures. I hadn't seen half of these before. I agree with equinox - Sharon could have done so much better and not because she was so beautiful - because Roman didn't treat her well. I think in the end she realized that. Sad.

Thanks, equinox & Carol. These were a pretty good find. We were delighted, ourselves.

Their relationship does look one-sided. She's always leaning towards him and doting on him, and he is casual, stiff or removed.

CarolMR said...

True, Fiona. Roman was a real ladies' man back in the day and he probably could have gotten any woman he wanted (and probably did).

Roman eventually showed his true colors.

Roman looks pis*ed off in the photo that shows Sharon interacting with (I think) Roger Vadim (?). I think that's Vadim and Fonda, anyway. Can't enlarge photo on this phone. Nice pics. Love the ones of her where she wears little or no make-up. While gorgeous, more of her true vitality and essence comes thru in the "natural" photos. She had a real aura of light around her. I truly HATE that bast**rd Watson, along with Atkins, Krenwinkel, Kasabian & Manson. :(

I wish I'd known that you were looking for new pix as I "think" I have some new ones. Of course, all pix are new to some people as we all havent; seen what others have. Did that make sense? LOL I love the pix where she's wearing the jumpsuit. Those were taken at one of the "Rosemary's Baby" premieres. You can see Mia Farrow there too.

I've never seen a bad photo of Sharon. She was incredibly photogenic. The color photo where she's facing the camera and he's looking to the side has a date of July 1969 on it. That's when it was developed, I wonder if it was taken then too.

I find the pictures of the narcissistic Roman looking in the mirror very telling. I can't see any reason why she'd be attracted to him other than his money, power, and his ability to further her career. The vile child molester treater her like shit. I doubt that she would have given him the time of day if he worked in a convenience store or a car wash.....

CarolMR said...

ITA with Doc about Sharon's interest in Roman, unfortunately. I think deep down she thought he would further her career.

Venus, the 9th picture? That yellow dress looks like it could be a maternity dress. I noticed that Sharon liked fur coats. She had the red fox one and this dark one (third from last photo).

I think ST really, really loved the guy. If she would of had the chance to live, I am sure she would not have continued putting up with his philandering after the baby. I always wondered if she ever knew about him screwing Michelle Phillips. That chick had like a mattress permanently attached to her back.

I think Sharon knew about Roman's womanizing. I believe that's why she wanted Jay to remain in her life. I often wonder about Sharon's relationship with Jay at the end. How many married women allow their ex-fiancées to spend so much time with them, especially 8 1/2 months pregnant, in their bikini underwear, with their husbands in another country?

Can't stand photos of her and Polanski. She belonged with Sebring.

Pictures 12 and 18 especially. In 12, she's sitting right at the edge of her chair to reach him and he is sitting way back, hands in his lap...a loving picture would have brought him naturally forward,
And 18! What is that business with the mirror and her crotch! Putting his face there, his picture, I mean!
Strange, that one.

irked me what it reminded me of and I just got it..its the pics of Prince Charles and Diana, especially on their wedding day. She's so in love with him and he's so in love with Camilla. Poor Diana....the tenonds on her neck are at full stretch to reach him/

Maybe he was trying to figure out why people say he looks like a pussy.....

She knew about Roman and Michelle fuc**ng. John Phillips either told her or confirmed it to her shortly before her death. I was told at M. Sarne's birthday get-together in Malibu which was Wed 8/6. She didn't leave "sick", she left upset - From what I've been told, it shattered her. My opinion about why that affair, as it was only one of many affairs by Roman, was the proverbial "last straw"? - she trusted Michelle/they were friends, Roman's cheating always hurt her (or as Roman the ass called it, was her "hang up"), & her affair with Christopher Jones indicated she had about had enough. My opinion too is that Roman was in for a really rude awakening. Some guys totally grow up the minute they see their first child, & become a better person. I really don't think he would have changed, but I think she intended on giving him a shot at being a good father. The thing is, when you're very idealistic, gentle & kind, as she was, the rose-colored glasses cause you to excuse and overlook a lot. But when something causes you to snap and lose faith in the person - & this can be after they've already pulled alot of bullshit - and you become disillusioned - you never can fully feel the same love for them. I think finding out that he'd betrayed her with Michelle did that for her.
As far as getting back together with Jay... I've talked to a few women who dated &/or lived with him, men who were his partying buddies &/or clients; & he was addicted to coke. Very. I would have had a serious crush on the guy, from all acounts he was not only sexy but funny, intelligent & kind. But Sharon would have been trading one problem for another. I do think she genuinely loved Roman, & I think the secret to that is found in one of her letters, published in "Restless Souls", where she said Roman could never ever bore her, & she thought he was the only man whom she could say that about. At her age, of course she loved the excitement, glamour, his confidence and domineering nature, etc. If you look at pictures of her in '68 in particular, she has a total aura of sex around her. I think he awakened her sexuality also. As she grew in her life experiences and got older, Roman would've been out the door. It was just a question of when, & she had the greatest, most loving family in the Tates there to provide love and support when she did.

Sorry, posting by phone is a pain in the a**... Anyway, I had also wanted to say, with regard to the "being bored..." issue: Sharon was beautiful (understatement of the year). Beautiful young women can have any man they want, & they know it. Simple fact. Although she had a temper and could be bawdy, Sharon's predominating qualities were her soft-spoken kindness & gentle nature. I guarantee that caused men to fawn over her 24/7. Roman said in his autobiography that she was stringing him along at first about going out, making dates & breaking them (I knew this behavior well in my youth). He said she only became interested in him after he told her to "go fu*k herself". Sometimes when you're young, lots of drama and highs and lows in a relationship seems like a great love. And is exciting.

Insomnia or not, I'm never posting again in the middle of the night. First post should have read: " I was told that Sharon was told at Mike Sarne's... etc.". I was 6 in 1969 & wasn't told anything back then except to eat my vegetables.

Doc,
I had similar thoughts about the mirror. After a while, I realized Roman was looking at the haircut Sharon was giving him. Maybe she learned to cut hair from Jay.

CarolMR said...

orwhut, Sharon has said in interviews that Jay taught her to cut hair. He taught Doris, too.

CarolMR said...

I think Sharon was falling for Jay all over again. Just look at the pictures of the last days. And there's a video (Venus would know where it can be found) where Jay is having an afternoon party at his house (I don't think Roman was there) and he and Sharon share a playful kiss and he walks away. The camera stays on Sharon and I couldn't believe the look on her face. Sort of, What might have been...Am I remembering correctly, Venus?

Trilby, middle of the night or not, your thoughts are very insightful. At least you weren't in a drunken stupor posting like "Vera".

Like many, I think Polanski gets a free pass on all of his deplorable behavior by playing the grieving husband trump card. I can't help but wonder just how much was he grieving when he f*#ked an airline stewardess on his way home after the murders?

The letter you quoted from Statman's book Restless Souls is possibly the most telling of what was happening in their relationship. Btw, we know this to be a factual letter because in the Enhanced Ebook we hear Doris Tate reading the letter. Plus, Doris' added remarks about Polanski on the same recording tells us that the whole family was aware of how he bad was hurting Sharon.

In the letter, Sharon says: I'm giving him until the Academy Awards. The awards would have been in March. Is it possible that the date came and went not because Polanski had improved, but because Sharon feared being a single mother and hoped that the baby would then change him?

There's a quote somewhere of Patti Tate stating that Sharon was going to see if Polanski changed after the baby and if he didn't she planned to leave him.

All this leads to the glaring question of why on earth would Debra Tate want to have this man who hurt Sharon so much during her life write the forward to a coffee table book dedicated to Sharon's life? Polanski's co-partner in crime against Sharon, Michelle Phillips, is another contributor. Wtf Debra, will you also include recollections from Charles Watson & Patricia Krenwinkel too? I mean, they only hurt Sharon that one night.

Trilby, just read that comment. I fixed that Roger Vadim/Jane Fonda pic to make it clickable.

Carol,
Thank you for confirming my guess that Jay taught Sharon to cut hair. If I've seen those interviews I've forgotten.

orwhut, you're very welcome!

I think its so sad that Sharon was essentially a trophy to Roman. When I look at pictures of Michelle Phillips it's so obvious that Roman has a type and Michelle offered a younger version of that type. I guess in Romans eyes Sharon matured to a point that didn't fit his female ideal.
