Bobby Beausoleil Arrest Site

According to the following newspaper article and arrest report, Robert Kenneth Beausoleil was arrested at the top of the La Cuesta grade in San Luis Obispo on August 6, 1969:

The 7% La Cuesta grade is very steep and is located just north of downtown SLO. In 1969, there was a motel called the La Cuesta at the summit which is no longer there. Patty wondered as she stood there if Gary's car overheated and that is why Bobby stopped for the night?

Anywhoo, here are photos of what is left of the site. You may not be surprised to find out that it is now a public park, like so many other places in the Manson saga have become:

He gave Dennis Wilson's place as his residence.

Interesting...

I drive by there twice a day. By the way, no one calls it La Cuesta Grade. Everyone calls it, and I believe the official name is just Cuesta Grade.

Patty,

Thanks - It helps to put events into perspective if you see photos of the area under discussion.

Max has rightly pointed out that he gave DW's address. The Family didn't half use and abuse DW's hospitality.

I assume Patty also realises that BB gave Charlie's date of birth, as well as his own.

I think BB was drugged up to the eyeballs after leaving Spahn. So much of his getaway after the Hinman murder is amateurish. I don't mean to be ghoulish but BB had the body, he had the car, so all he had to do was put the body in the car, take it into the desert and set fire to it. Any of BB's fingerprints at the Hinman residence could have been explained away by the fact that BB had stayed there at one point.

From other blogs, I notice that the FBI still has him as a suspect for a Jane Doe killing not too far from where he was arrested. I take it that in the unlikely event of the Parole Board approving his release, that the Feds would want to revisit the evidence.

I was looking at one of Bruce Davis' parole hearings on YouTube, and one of the parole board members stated that his problem with BB, is that he will not admit that he was one of the Family. On that, BB seems to be between a rock and a hard place.

In fact, I wouldn't release BB until he agrees to stop singing! Here's the link to his recording of Sarah McLachlan's 'Angel'.

http://us7.campaign-archive1.com/?u=8c8a085ea56c2399320c39042&id=33f2940321

There is a sample snippet, and all I can say is that he is singing flat!

Apparently, he has a double album due out this year - God Help Us!!

The vinyl copies of 'Lucifer Rising' sold out, and it wasn't a cheap product, so between his 'artwork' and 'recordings', he must be pulling in a tidy little sum behind bars.

If he needs backing singers for his next effort, I am nominating Patty, Deb, Ann and Matt. You just know they would do it on a pro bono basis for him!

LOL. Too funny, Equinox! I agree. His singing voice sucks.

My question has always been this: where the hell was he going?

I wish my state would make empty land into parks too, but around here, they sell to real estate developers, so they can build tract homes, and ugly apartments. 4,000 people a month are moving to Austin & surrounding communities, and everything that used to be nice & enjoyable is ruined by crowds & traffic. I know this doesn't have anything to do with the posting, but it makes me sad that Texas is being overpopulated, while other states try to preserve natural lands. Funny thing is, the majority of individuals moving here are from California. :(

Hi Ann,

People building in Austin? I believe Robert Plant is building a new home in the area. He was living in Austin with Patti Griffith, and the property they were living in was sold, so it looks like they are building something to their own specifications.

On the subject of where BB was going, on the day BB murdered Gary Hinman, Gayle Massman gave birth, so I think he might have been on the road to the San Francisco area to visit her.

I think there were three women who were pregnant to him at the same point in time (different stages of pregnancy). Gayle, Kitty and Sandra Good. There are some people who think he may be the father of Linda Kasabian's youngest child. Talk about 'sharing the love'!!!

Hi Suze,

It gets worse. He has done a cover version of Jimi Hendrix' 'Red House'. It's sad, really sad!!! BB cannot sing to save himself, and his guitar playing is adequate at best.

Ann,

Apologies, in my earlier post I should have said 'Griffin', not 'Griffith'.

Panamint Patty said...

Yep, Cali ain't what it used to be that's for sure, Ann. Thanks Jenn for the clarification, and thanks Max for pointing out the Dennis Wilson thing. Patty LOVES u guys

AustinAnn74 said...

I pointed that Dennis Wilson thing out too in my posting called "Observations on the Hinman case." I had noticed BB used DW's address, and the birthday h gave the cops was CM's or a day later. Very strange!

Equinox, you would not believe the number of people packing into Austin. We are going to need a shoe horn before too long to squeeze everyone in. Now, it takes 2 hours or more to get to your destination from the amount of cars on the road. Austin used to be a college/music town, and now it's turning into yuppie ville, with high rise condos, ugly housing built into the canyons, and the local swimholes with hour-long waits. The roads in Austin aren't meant for this many people either. They say Austin has a lot of jobs, but the competition to even get an interview is beyond ridiculous. There are people with PhD's & MBA's waiting tables. Austin has turned into Dallas. Expect crowds, high prices, and traffic everywhere now. It's incredibly sad to witness the greed in the politicians eyes when they are promoting "economic growth" in an area that wasn't meant for hoardes of people. Future generations will not be able to enjoy the views, Barton Springs pool, small music venues, or cheap beer. :(
Maybe I should move to Barker ranch, huh? Haha....

They do have a swimming pool...LOL

TEXAS sends bus loads of it's illegals to CALIFORNIA and CALIFORNIA sends it's ????? to TEXAS.

LBJ (from Texas) used to send tens of thousands of American boys from ALL states to far away Vietnam to die cause JFK had a hard-on for the commies.

"NO sense makes sense" to me. It provides a rational POLITICAL explanation for most everything.

BUT BB driving his victim's car all over CALIFORNIA after killing him ??? Maybe BB just wanted some wheels to go on vacation up North.

Why doesn't TEXAS and CALIFORNIA just have a prisoner EXCHANGE program ???

OOPS, that makes TOO much much sense !

Back in 2008 I spent 6 weeks near the top of Cuesta Grade outside a little town called San Miguel, just north of Paso Robles. This is the same area where James Dean died. When I was visiting there the people I was with referred to it simply as "the grade".....

Panamint Patty said...

Hi Doc! Yes, patty passed the James Dean marker on the 41/46. Such an awesome road...she wishes she still had her Cooper and not that lumbering old Jeep...vrooooooom

Hey Patty just curious about what the monument says ? I wonder what might have been if BB didn't commit murder he might have made it in the music business He had connections with Love and sang background on Frank Zappa"s Freak out album
I'm not a fan of his music either still think it possible that he could have possibly become a member of a successful band

Panamint Patty said...

If you zoom in real close, its a marker commemorating the engineering achievement behind it.

equinox234 said...

BB's Twitter account seems to be called 'Beausoleilbobby', run by Beth!!!

He appears to be marketing his 'artwork' since 28 June under the following site:-

http://bobby-beausoleil.fineartamerica.com/

On the second of his pages, he has a painting of an eye in a prison cell with a tear falling down. It's called 'In Carcerated'. BB never quite gets it, Gary Hinman can't rise up out of his coffin.

equinox234 said...

Patty,

Are the photos from a recent visit Patty made to the site?

Was this the first time Patty had been there?

equinox234 said...

William,

I agree with you, he could have gotten into a band. His looks would have attracted a female fanbase. If that wasn't possible, he could have got work as a guitar tech/guitar roadie for a successful band. It would have been an honest living. I read on one of the TLB blogs that he had once took the owner of an antiques shop out to breakfast while the Family robbed the shop! I wonder how many house break-ins he got involved in with Charlie. He seemed to me to be well under Charlie's spell, and allowed CM to lead him around by the nose.

TAXES TAXES TAXES,

I can see people from NY or California migrating to Texas.

and who wouldn't want to live near Ann ?

Panamint Patty said...

Patty has been by there many times but these were taken last month.

Max Frost said...

That's funny Bobby because lately I've had a few thoughts regarding the desire to move to Texas because of the way some things are handled there.

But there are also some very backwards things there. So...a horse a piece.

Austin sounds a lot like Portland, Oregon. People here used to have bum0per stickers saying "come and visit, spend your money then leave." Now we have bumper stickers saying "Keep Portland Weird" and people are just flocking here.

I moved from what was once a pretty safe city in Monterey County to the Sierra Mountains to get away from the drug cartels that have taken over that area and a lot of other cities in California. I was shot at once and jumped twice for wearing the wrong color clothes. I'm a middle aged white guy. There's no way I could be mistaken for a gang banger.....

Dilligaf said...

Doc,

You sure you weren't one of the Van Buren Boys? ;)

Doc Sierra said...

No Dill, I was a Reagan Boy. Our gang sign was the same as the Van Buren Boys' sign as a tribute to President Reagan's polyps.....

Matt said...

Reagan put the word polyp on the map. There was a drink at the local college bar called the polyp.

Doc Sierra said...

When I was stationed at The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD I met the doctor that took care of Reagan's polyps AND Jimmy Carter's Hemmorhoids. He was a Rear Admiral.....lol

Doc Sierra said...

I stole that joke from Johnny Carson.....

Robert Hendrickson said...

him when he was governor of California.

As President Reagan - A day after HE sent the B52's into to bomb Gadafy for harboring the "terrorists" who pushed the crippled US citizen "Klinghoffer" off the ship, at work (space program) some already were wearing TEE shirts with a big photo of a flying B52 with the caption "It's Miller Time."

It was then that I realized we had a real pair of balls in the White House. Not so much since.

So I still find myself asking - in very troubled times - what would HE do ?

Max Frost said...

He would follow the orders of his superiors just like they all do

Doc Sierra said...

Robert, I served while Reagan was Commander In Chief and we trusted him. Even though we were on the brink at all times I thought of him as the kid that wouldn't take any shit off of the bullies (Soviet Union) so they knew they couldn't push him around.....

Max Frost said...

Doc,

The VP at that time was a former Director of the CIA.

So who do you think was more in charge of things at that time?

Doc Sierra said...

Well Max, I'm not sure. His main job is to preside over the senate but I'm not an insider. I think all politicians are sneaky so I'm not so sure. Towards the end Reagan wasn't awake very often so, probably Bush I.....

.@ Austin-Ann; I always asked myself the same, but thats even not that important..So stupid to drive around in a Murder-Victim car,he had time enough to get ridd of it. Then also there is so much evidence in THAT car,the knive, still bloody, and the rest.I mean ...common Mr Beausoleil seems to be an Intelligent person. What was he thinking back then ???I did a bit of Web-Stroling/Wading on this and found this : A fight broke out between Bobby and Gary….Gary enventually agreed to sign over one of his cars to make up for the money lost. About that time Manson showed up and Bruce Davis….Manson assualted Gary with a sword and cut half his ear off….which was not needed as he and Bobby had already made an agreement for the money. At that point, the line was crossed and Gary had to be killed so he would not go to the police. Bobby killed him a day later. Very interesting note…..had Manson not have showed up and attacked Gary…..Gary would not have been killed by Bobby….then Bobby would not have gotten arrested…there would have been no need for the Tate/Labianca copy cat murders to get Bobby out of jail…..Which means they might have not happened.

AUSTIN, Texas 1884-85 - the town becomes the hunting ground for a REAL serial KILLER - likened to the infamous Jack the Ripper. The 12 man police force - only trained to deal with shoot-em-up events, where a witness is available, were way out of the league against a clever DEVIL.

A hundred years later, the "Texas Tower" sniper, in Austin, Texas gave birth to the term "mass shooter."

Sounds to me like Austin might be an exciting place to live - at least not-so-boring.

A good example of the relationship between the President and the CIA / Mafia would be NIXON's participation in the Jimmy Hoffa release from prison for $500,000 - which he needed for the "Watergate Break-in Boys" It's on the infamous NIXON tapes - so no need to argue the issue. For the establishment, it always seems to be about the money, BUT that helps make the Manson Family story so interesting. They needed money to go to Death Valley ? So they went around killing people to ignite a world-wide race WAR ? What am I missing here?

In 1980 I was driving up the coast...passing thru SLO my car over heated.
It was very late at night so I fell asleep in the car on the side of the highway.
I the morning a CHP officer pulled up and checked me out...he said he'd call for a tow truck...but it never showed up.
Ended up abandoning the car and taking a bus back to Riverside.
Had no way to go back and get my car.....worried about it for a week or two.
Never picked it up....never heard a thing.

Of course at the time I was very into this case and thought it strange how I would break down where I did....

just wanted to share.......

The following was posted today on BB's Official Facebook page. If you want to see the portait, it is featured there.

"SMOKING UP A STORM
© 2014 by Bobby BeauSoleil

Here is an image of a painting I recently finished entitled 'Smoking Up A Storm'. Portraits are a rarity for me. Left to my own devices I'm not ordinarily inclined to do them. This one was commissioned by the subject, Billy Leroy. Those of you who know him or have seen him on the Baggage Wars reality TV show will be well aware that he is almost never seen when he is not puffing on a cigar. I had fun making this aspect of Billy's personality the theme for this painting."

Max Frost said...

Thanks for the story Sbuch113. Stories like that are fascinating to me and I'm sure many others.

It probably looked identical in 1980 to what it did in 1969.

I bet you never stop wondering what ever became of your car?

MAX: Rarely does evidence just APPEAR to support controversial issues, BUT look at this:

1) Our ALLY Isreal is at WAR with the Palistinians / Hamus, so John Kerry - a military veteran - is sent to quell the conflict.

2) A potential WAR over a downed airliner (with American(s) on board) sparks only a few WORDS.

3) An actual CRISES at our borders with tens of thousands of ILLEGALS pouring into the US and the only solution the President can come-up with is to appropriate BILLIONS of $$$ to care for them.

4) When America actually NEEDS a LEADER with a pair of balls AND a maturely developed brain, HE is off to PLAY with his Beverly Hills buddies and COLLECT more MONEY.

YES Max, the "CIA" RUNS the United States of America AND thank God they do - OTHERWISE we would be up shit's creek without a paddle. AND the "Secret Service" - imagine what it could be like IF "a bad apple" could NOT be quickly plucked out of the barrel.

Max Frost said...

We are up shit creek without a paddle and it's because the CIA (Wall St.) is running the show.

Obama is just a CIA (Wall St.) whore/puppet like the guy before him and the guy before him, etc.

He is doing EXACTLY as they tell him to do.

The president's job is to learn his lines and look good for the camera.
