MansonBlog Tour 2016 - Jane Doe 59

Helter Skelter page 620:
On November 16, 1969, the body of a young girl was found dumped over an embankment at Mulholland and Bowmont Drive near Laurel Canyon, in almost the same spot where Marina Habe's body was found.  A brunette in her late teens, five feet nine, 115 pounds, she had been stabbed 157 times in the chest and throat. Ruby Pearl remembered seeing the girl with the family at Spahn, and thought her name was "Sherry." Though the Manson girls traded aliases often, LASO was able to identify only one Sherry, Sherry Ann Cooper, aka Simi Valley Sherri.  She had fled Barker Ranch at the same time as Barbara Hoyt and was, fortunately, still alive.  The victim, who had been dead less than a day, became Jane Doe 59 in police files.  Her identity is still unknown.
The proximity in time of her death to that of Zero suggests the possibility that she may have been present at the murder, then killed so she wouldn't talk. But this is strictly conjecture, and there is no evidence to support it. Her murder remains unsolved.
There have been conflicting reports of the location of her discovery. Some articles have identified the spot as Mulholland and Skyline which is 3/4 mi down the hill from Mulholland and Bowmont. We stopped there first:

It is an isolated drop-off and a good place for a panicked perp to throw the remains. Below the ravine is a jogging trail which would have made it easy to spot the body from.

Looking north from the top of the ravine you can see the Chatsworth hills where Spahn Ranch is...

Reet Jurvetson's remains were found by a bird watcher. The level of decomposition was fairly light.

The MansonBlog investigative team is on the scene.

At the intersection of Mulholland and Bowmont there is a very steep drop-off ideal for disposing of a body

The first thing we noticed exiting the car was that there were surround sound bird calls. Plus, there were markers for bird watchers like the one above. You would think it is likely that since a bird watcher found Jurvetson's remains that the Mulholland/Bowmont site is the more likely of the two places of the discovery. However Mulholland/Skyline is where Jurvetson was found.

As usual, the investigative team is without one of their investigators......ME! I will make it a mission in life to be on the next trip. Austin Ann is slowly coming back after losing my mother to cancer a few weeks ago. . . In the meantime, I'll hold down the fort from the "station!"

Of course since it is extremely unlikely that this has anything to do with the Manson people this is really just air.

Don't you have a birthday roast to attend? Happy Birthday.

AustinAnn, my sincere condolences to you, I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Matt, it worries me that you guys instantly recognize an ideal place to dispose of a body. Did anyone take a headcount at the start of the tour?

MHN, thank you!!

Terribly sorry for your loss, Austin Ann.

I thought that Reet Jurvetson's name sounded Scandinavian, but the article at Deb's link said she was born in Sweeden to Estonian refugees. I wonder if many Estonian names sound Scandinavian or if they changed their Estonian name.

Ann,
Please accept my condolences as well.

I'm very sorry Ann, it is so difficult for a person to lose their mother. The first time the morgue shot of Jane Doe #59 was made public was when Bill Nelson stole it from Deemer. He stole this photo, the Doreen Gaul/James Sharp murder scene & autopsy photo's and the pictures taken of Tate, Frykowski, and Sebring on the day of the murders. I received a copy when I bought the Gaul/Sharp photo's. This was the photo seen by jurvetson's friends in Canada.

AustinAnn -- as a relative newbie I don't know you but also offer my condolences. I lost my dad in January, my step-mother in March and my girlfriend lost her dad in December. But they were all quite old, went the distance, had good runs. Like Ken Kesey said, we all get one ticket to the parade and we can either join in or watch it go by.

Unfortunately Reet, Marina and way too many others never got very far out of the gate.

orwhut -- many people in countries adjoining the Baltic Sea region have Scandinavian surnames and vice versa. It's been a melting pot area of cultures for over a thousand years -- slavic, germanic, ugro-finnic.

ColScott -- I tend to agree for now there's very little evidence to associate Reet and the Mansonites beyond one woman claiming she thought she saw her with them and the coincidence of being disposed at a time and location relative to Mansonite activities. Being butchered in such a way is a 'statement', takes a lot of time to do, requires a psycho deluxe to do it -- I'd be investigating her immediate associates.

Disagree on no more potential Mansonite victims -- based on the known evidence the potential is high, especially at Barker. I have an acquaintance who spent a successful career searching for missing people all over the world, often in gawd-awful places. He told me the worst vibes he ever got in the world was at Barker. I've been there twice, alone. Gave me the heebee jeebies too. Not the scenes or landscapes which I like, just the 'evil' sensations beyond the imaginary, and sometimes the smell. And most I've met who've been there, particularly solo rather than in the security of large groups, felt the same way. But deep abandoned mines and wells aside, I also think *human* cadaver doggies don't lie. But I'm not saying there is .. just saying the hunch is strong.

Well the Reet thing should be an on-going investigation, now identified, with hopefully more to come. At least her family has some closure.

AND here's the really scary part - the COL could be right - NO more murders attributable to the Manson Family, BUT many Jane / John Does are maybe related to KILLER Cops. THEY walk among us
especially today.

The ONLY reason you can actually SEE "killer" COPS in action today, is because good folks carry cell phones. What IF George Holiday didn't have a camera ?

As I mentioned some time ago. LA County Sherriff's Deputies used to dump THEIR bodies in the high growth areas of "on" and "off" freeway ramps. My friend Craig worked for the Highway Patrol, who would find the bodies - until the head of the HP told the LA County Sherriff they would start arresting the real bad guys IF the practice continued.

So NOW, high in the mountains above the Malibu Sherriff's sub-station is the "graveyard" for victims of KILLER Cops. BUT back in the day THEY used to just "dump" bodies anywhere LIKE common trash was dumped off Mulholland and the canyon crossroads.

Maybe it's time to wake-up and smell ALL the roses.

I am so sorry for your loss, Austin Ann. Your mother was fortunate to have you with her as she went through the long goodbye.

In re: this case being related to Manson: the timing of releasing the information conveniently comes the same time that LVH has been granted parole. Coinky-dinky? Or is someone going through desperate measures to ensure parole doesn't happen?

I understand that IT would be more "interesting" and news $ worthy IF REET was another Manson Family victim, BUT hey, what IF she was simply just another missing young girl in the chaotic 1960's ?

I'll bet if one of LBJ's or Nixon's kids turned up missing in 1969 (even the ugly ones), eventually bull-dosers would be digging up the whole of America.

As this investigation continues, I believe WE are going to be treated to the realization that unless a Family member of the KING or QUEEN are concerned, nobody in the government "establishment"
really cares who or how many young folks from the sixties remain missing.

IF I seem to get more and more nasty, maybe it's because I'm Swedish, and I'm a little tired of paying PIGs to eat donuts while THEY waloo in their muck all day.

Finally an answer to a question that's been keeping me wondering every now and then. So sad. She certainly looks the girl in morgue photo. Her family can now mourn her. Rest in peace young lady.....

Hi, Long time Lurker here. I decided to surface because while checking out the web site coolopolis link that Marlene Ful contributed, thanks Marlene, I noticed another interesting article posted on May 1 titled, "Meeting Charles Manson: Montrealer on knowing the '60s hippie murder cult leader". Very interested read. , especially the part about Susan Atkins being his neighbor Rory's GF, and that he went to visit her in jail. That seemed a somewhat dubious claim, but you never know. the whole Manson mystique is full of twists and turns.
BTW, beautiful pics of Death Valley, I have always wanted to visit.
