The great unknown...I suppose the MF went down with a couple on buck knives and a Buntline Special! And, a rope...
When he refers to the MF members going into the water but reportedly saying it was too hot (and the narrator implies that it wasn't) the temperature IS,in fact, purportedly EXTREMELY HOT, and, that heat is noted as a specific environmental condition - that because of their survival in - makes the Death Valley Pupfish a unique species.

I wrote a paper on the for school. They are a subspecies, there is another one at salt marsh with which these can interbreed. But should they be? That was the premise of the paper.
