Alisa's Statement - 3-7-12

"Before I can comment there are several things I need to investigate. First, I've been told that while the site is obviously approved by Debbie it may run by Robin Olsen--who has been stalking me on the various blogs (under an assumed name) making accusatory and rude comments (most, thankfully deleted by the hosts) about the book that ring very close to what's posted on Debbie's site. Yesterday morning, just before this statement was released, Olsen made threatening and disturbing phone calls to family members that Brie and I are close to, asserting, amongst numerous other things, "I'm a writer too, you know"--and I think that comment alone speaks volumes. Obviously, Olsen is a very disturbed woman. So, at this point, while I'm quite certain that Debbie would not approve of any book she didn't write, I'm not sure who actually wrote this press release or if Debbie has even read Restless Souls. Secondly, Restless Souls was extensively vetted by HarperCollins' legal department (9 months total), this is not just an attack on Brie and I but an attack on HarperCollins integrity as a publisher so I need to wait to hear what they will allow or not allow me to comment on at this time...I can tell you all this, I will not turn this into an unsubstantiated defiling circus and thus degrade the integrity of Restless Souls...More to come."

  1. I guess this helps to shed light on who at least one of these dark personalities are that only show up to stir the pot in a negative way. Ah, mental illness. Don't let those "unfortunate souls" get you down, Alisa!

  2. LOL, Suze! Yeh, around here we can spot mental illness a mile away. Let 'em rant, who cares.

Alisa we look forward to hearing what you have to say after consulting with HarperCollins.

  4. Deb's site is interesting to say the least. Especially the merchandise page: "Be sure to stop by, celebrate my sister's life, then buy a license plate frame or holiday card organizer with Sharon on the front in a Santa hat!"

  5. Honestly, I loved the way the book was written. It looked like it was verbatim from journals, which I believe it was.

Also, knowing Harper Collins as such a reputable publishing house, I highly doubt that it would have opened itself to a potential lawsuit. I am certain that the "fact-checking" was thorough.

Brie, Alisa -- these individuals should quiet their tongues and pass for the fools they are rather than wag them and prove it.

  8. All this bickering reminds Patty that even though you can't own the truth, everybody tries really hard to do so anyway.

We don't have to take sides, people. Everyone does have something to offer to the big picture, everyone feels a different part of the elephant while blindfolded. It does NOT matter how long you have been following the case. It does NOT matter what kind of education you had. It does NOT matter what your political party is, or your stance on the Death Penalty, or who you choose to forgive or not forgive.

This is NOT a competition, this is a quest for knowledge. And anyone who purports to know "the absolute truth" is absoluely kidding himself.

  9. How anyone could be so venomous about a book that says to do what you believe is right and try to pay it forward is beyond Patty.

Write yer own damn book and Patty will pay for and read that one, too...duh.

  10. I just love Patty's posts...she speaks the truth.

  11. The only thing Patty gets really super intolerant of is intolerance, itself.

And thank you Maria, that was a nice thing to say.

  12. You are most welcome, Patty. Like you, intolerance rates as one of my pet peeves, regardless of the subject at hand.

What we all have to realize here is that "Restless Souls" has offered us a fresh new perspective on this horrible event in history from people who were there. Ours is not to judge, especially when we don't know any of the details that have gone on behind the scenes in the past.

  13. After almost four years of not updating that site, it's a shame she chose that statement and platform to refute the book. To Patty's point, Debra should write her own book and tell her story and her truth. Wow, I sound like Oprah...but anyway, her statement makes me think of that quote, "better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool then to open your mouth and confirm it." That's not a verbatim quote so no lawsuits please.

  14. Alisa, to quote Ricky Nelson-
"You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself."

    And Suze-
"Don't let those "unfortunate souls" get you down, Alisa!"

And my personal motto, though I don't know who said it-
    "Haters make me famous"

  18. Not that my opinion - about anything - matters. But I've always found Alisa to be a genuine person with good intentions. I challenge anyone to find something she has said or done, that says otherwise. If you've read Restless Souls, then It is abundantly clear that the book is nothing but a tribute to people she holds dear to her heart. For someone to suggest she is trying to write herself into this story, its beyond ridiculous. She is only mentioned once in this book, and by Brie. The book is great, way better than I imagined. Paul's team tailing Roman as Roman is investigating John Phillips - priceless!

  19. Patty,

It was Emily Latella who said "nevermind." But it's perfect, nevertheless.

  20. I didn't know the Orca even had a website. And, who is Robin Olsen?

  21. Thank you La-de, Patty just googled Emily and she is laughing her fool ass off just looking at the photos of Gilda and Jane...
