I have an etymological question: Do you think "creepy-crawl" was coined by Manson and entered into the vernacular through BUG's book, etc., or is there evidence the phrase pre-dates Manson?

I did ask Adam the blog owner about the video posted on his site.
He told me he does not recall where he found it.
Nor does he think it is real. Adam said the movie might be a Jon Aes-Nihil Production.
According to Sanders the term was coined by the girls, but not until late - like July of 1969.

ReplyDeleteThe "creepy crawl" vid is almost certainly a fake. It was uploaded to YouTube Jan 12, 2009. It was uploaded to Dailymotion Jan 14, 2009 with the exact same description. It was uploaded to Metacafe Jan 14, 2009 with the exact same description.

"Wrote & directed "proof of concept" short to help an independent producer secure financing for a feature film about the Manson Girls. The Manson Family would often go on "creepy crawls" in real life to train for the coming apocalypse. Their goal was to shake up complacent middle America by quietly vandalizing homes while the owners slept nearby. This short captures the 16mm film look available at the time, as well as the raw style of untrained filmmakers. Imagine waking up the next morning to this frightening scene."

I have some type of freaky movie streaming in another tab right now, it's called "Manson, my name is Evil". I won't provide a link because it might be a copyright violation, but it can be streamed on at least 3 sites.
ReplyDeleteI think the film was originally supposed to be titled "Leslie, my name is Evil". I read the movie was inspired by a song called "Leslie", but I don't know if that's true. The song is by a Canadian band I think, here is a link to the acoustic version, the song opens the film:

I would NOT recommend this film to anyone with connections to victims of the Manson family as they may find it offensive. The film is basically a glamorized nonsensical portrayal of the Manson family.

Yes, it is. It's a Canadian film from 2009, I had never seen it until today.

I suppose it was some Canadian's idea of "art". I did like the song "Leslie" at the beginning though.
A friend of mine watched it and said it was horrible.
ReplyDeleteManson Family MOvies was made by Jon Aes-Nils and however weird ( Jon himself played Tex) there is alot of footage of real places and music of Charlies Jon sent me a personal copy of it bizarre but interesting nonetheless
ReplyDeleteOne thing I forgot to mention about the film was in the trial scenes, one of the jurors looked a lot like John Waters, so much so I thought it was him, it's not.
ReplyDeleteThe "real" John Waters said "Both myself and Leslie were horrified this movie was made, and I will never be able to watch it no matter what the intent."
The film is described as a "low-budget Canadian feature", I'm guessing it was just someone's attempt to capitalize on Manson's notoriety and make money.
Personally, I try not to make extremely negative comments about anything, but "horrible" is a pretty accurate description of this film.
The creepy crawls were described by the participants as mainly moving furniture around(rearranging the house)and stealing a few things while the occupants slept nearby. No dead animal heads or group stabbing of cutting boards. It is good that sunset 77 found out what it really was made for, though. The thought did enter my mind that it might have been a copycat situation, made by wannabees.
