Anybody live near Spahn and want to make a few bucks?

Reader "Howard" asks:

On this excellent site a photo was published of what appears to be a Covair. Bruce Davis reportedly was seen driving a Covair. It is above the old Spahn ranch site. How they got it there is a mystery.

I would like to pay someone to go and get the vin number.

Hey there liz. I love your blog by the way. Here is a map to the exact location of the Corvair car(B). It so friggin hot I wont be hiking there anytime soon. But I will leave you with this info in case someone else wants to swet it out. If you go to google to this location and zoom in all the way, you will see the car. I don’t know how it got there. Perhaps rolled it from the top.

Also is there a way I can get pointed in the right direction to Squeaky’s water hole?? Any help would be appreciative, Mike and I want to go film it.

  1. Not necessarily Bruce Davis', it could have been from anyone else around there. There is a woman in the Police ride reports with a car that fits exactly the same description of this Corvair

  2. And there are the remains of another Corvair at the Barker Ranch's junkyard

  3. I know Summer would do it, but she is on a cross country trek right now. I have been out to the car(even have my pic standing on the roof) but didn't think to look for the VIN number. If it was on a plaque attached to the car, chances are it's not there anymore. Most of what can be taken off of the car has been removed...but who knows.

  4. Old Corvairs weren't very expensive in those days. I remenber seeing one at an auction that only brought 65 bucks. I don't know that it met the reserve.

  5. man bruce couldn't maintain a vehicle worth a damn.

plus driving around with 'zodiac' was a little too obvious.

    :)

wish I was close by, I''d swing on by. LA Woman, you gonna do it?

  10. Hey there. I was the one who located this car and linked it to bruce when I was doing Zodiac investigating. Truth is were not sure but can only speculate. Michael, my cousin and I were the one that spray painted it as well. I looked where the VIN ussually is(top left of dash board) and saw nothing. IT is so rusted, I doubt you would make it out any way. The Vin# I want is the Bus that may be hinmans bus at Murphy ranch.

  11. Im not sure, but beleive the VIN is located a few places in every car, just in case the main one on dash is gone, even so 40+ years later is a long time for a piece of metal not to disengrate.
