I recently learned that pirates wore eyepatches not because of a bad or missing eye, but because they might have to go below deck at a moment's notice and be able to see after being in the bright sunlight. Keeping one eye covered is a way of maintaining ay and night vision at the same time.
David Bowie wore an eyepatch in between Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke. I think maybe it alludes to humans having two sides: a well lit respectable side, and a seedy, dangerous dark side. Day and Night. Black and White. Right and Wrong.
I actually think the eye patch has been drawn onto the photo. The strap looks very straight, doesnt seem to follow the natural curve of his forehead. Also look where the strap disappears over his hair, wouldn't the strap pull the hair tightly to his head ... its doesnt do that in this pic.
Jay Sebring (24:16-26:28) Yet another wig connection! Better add this to the list, or there will be hell…. toupee.
Jack Gerard Agency (32:35-34:00) Used unsuccessfully by Bill Vance to showcase some Manson girls as ‘topless’ dancers. For reasons unknown, this enterprise never fully developed.
Bobby Beausoleil (51:41- 51:44) as Cupid?
The Mugwumps (1:50:18-1:50:22) Group with Cass Elliot.
So many Manson Family connections in one bizarre film.
I had never realized this was a prison photo! I thought it was a photo from an acting job, pre-prison. He appears to enjoy his eyepatch persona, doesn't he?
He sure was good looking, wasn't he? What a shame. He threw it all away. 43 years and counting.

ReplyDeleteHere’s a gem with Jay Sebring, Bobby Beausoleil (sans eye patch) and some other tangential characters:
