Inmates Clothing

"Lizzy Skelter" asks-

I was just curious as to if anyone knows what happens to an inmates clothing after they are arrested.  For example Charles Manson was arrested in that brown buck skin suit, is that kept in his "belongings" waiting for him for his release that will never happen? Was he allowed back then to give or receive clothing from his girls? If by any chance it is kept in storage for him by the police? What happens to it or any inmates belongings after they die?

  1. I wonder if anyone is on possession today of the red velour shirt. I've seen CM, Cappy, Gypsy & Paul all wearing it at different times.

  2. For what it's worth, someone said that one of the girls sent Charlie his ceremonial vest, which he cut up and gave to other inmates. This story has been questioned but, if true, then he was apparently allowed to receive clothes from them.

  3. I have read that the girls made clothes and sent clothes to Charlie and the girls who were in custody.

If those buck skins are sitting in a plastic bag some place they must be rank by now.

  4. All possesions of any convicted individual will be held by the state until time of their release or death. At which time the items would be turned over to the inmates designated contact.

this is paraphrased right off the California Prisons infomation manuel

  10. Was the photo with the velour shirt Charlie's booking photo from the Barker raid and the one with buckskins from the Spahn raid or do I have them switched?

  11. I believe the buckskins photos are from Barker (Independence). And velour is LASO (Spahn).

The velour is from January 1970. The buckskin was taken in Los Angeles on December 9th, 1969, after Manson was transferred from Independence.

  16. Another thing about these mugshots. They are taken a little more than a month apart. The velour shot was taken on January 19, 1970, and it was taken because Charlie had shaved his beard the day before.

I knew about Trent Reznor's collection, but not Depp's. What does he have?

  22. Inmates can send property to their friends and family at their own expense.

Currently, in the prison where Charles is lodged, they must wear uniforms, although some personal items are allowed.

  27. That buckskin outfit was obviously very expensive to make. I really doubt the Manson women would have the skill to make it. To own it would be the ultimate Mansonian collectables. Think of the magic energy stored in that leather!

  28. I would love to own that buckskin shirt and pants, the ultimate in Manson collectables, it should be in a museum somewhere.
