Larry Melton aka The White Rabbit writes to Sandra Good aka Blue

This letter was written by family associate Larry Melton aka "White Rabbit" to Sandra Good aka "Blue" while he was serving time, here in Texas. I think over the years, a lot of people have dismissed this letter as being nothing but fabrication. I am not so sure. Why would he have written such a letter? I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. I think that there is more to this letter than any "Tex" tapes will ever reveal. What do you think? (By the way, I don't want anyone to think I am ripping off other people's "finds", so I will give credit where credit is due. I found this letter on the Zodiac/Manson connection website.) Anyway, here it is:

  1. I've met both of these guys. Melton, in my opinion, is a big fat liar. I spent about a half hour talking to him and my impression is that if he even knew the Manson family he was just on the fringes and he was not part of the inner circle.
The other guy in the photo is Dr. Howard Davis. Davis is convinced that Bruce Davis is the Zodiac Killer. He seems to believe everything that Melton tells him and Melton, in my opinion seems to string him along.
    Here's a link to Melton's page on Texas' Megan's Law https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/DPS_WEB/SorNew/PublicSite/index.aspx?PageIndex=Individual&IND_IDN=4736748&SearchType=Name
He did time for possession of child pornography.
Does anyone know Dr. Davis? I just wonder what his credentials are. I've tried to find out what subject his doctorate is in and couldn't find anything.

  2. Doc that's interesting you met them, how did you end up getting to Interact with Melton? I remember Col used to rip on Melton all the time it was actually quite amusing. May someone refresh me on how Melton might have involvement/ claims he knows the family? It's been a while since I've heard his name, kinda forgot about him.

I shared a hostel room with larry for a short period of time on lower haight st at the easy going hostel on haight and stenier in 2001 .He refered to himself as white rabbit , He wasnt shy about telling me about his time in the manson family , he had told me that he lived with them when he was in his late teens , according to him sharon tate was killed because of a bad drug deal , Tate and the actress who played Murphy brown got drugs from the family and basically told the family that they were not getting paid for the drugs they had purchased, Tate had told them to get lost or she would call the cops , she said who would they believe Hollywood actresses of a bunch of hippies in the desert, according to larry Manson got really angry and told the family to go kill them . According to larry

About 8 or 9 years ago I met them at a gathering of Zodiac Killer buffs. Dr. Davis was very pleasant to talk to. I don't believe in his theory about Bruce Davis but he was interesting to talk to. Melton however, seemed to tell people anything they wanted to hear to get attention.
Melton claims to have been with the family at Barker ranch and claims to have witnessed a murder there.

  5. Doc Sierra Howard Davis's doctorate is in Philosophy. He does practice alternative medicine however. He has a company that formulates homeopathic remedies for his own line of products as well as for clients.

  11. Having also met White Rabbitt I feel he is delusional and mentally impaired.

As many interested in the Manson case, Melton had an extensive Manson library collection which is where he learned a lot of the facts about the case.

The letter is just White Rabbitt's attempt to inject himself into the case and is totally BS.

Pretty much. Though there is a story that he possibly made one trip to Spahn for a day.

But it seems that he is just a wanna be family member and makes all this stuff up to be "cool" and attract attention to himself. It didn't help that someone like Howard tried to give him credibility.

  14. I believe Bill Nelson was just as curious as any of us would be at the stories and may have been a believer until after the Death Valley escapade.

  22. @ Lauren: cool! Good luck on your tests. Patty likes forensics but she's majoring in Clinical Lab Science. At her age? Yeah, she just doesn't know when to quit.

@Doc, didn't White Rabbit hang out in the Haight and try to sell his "artwork" in the 90's? Patty thinks she remembers that.

I don't know about artwork but he was trying to sell a book that he wrote. The last that I heard some people sent him money for the book and didn't receive it. And yes, back in the early 2000s he was hanging out in the Haight. When I met him I didn't want to make him feel bad but I wouldn't shake his hand for sanitary reasons.

  25. It was more of a manuscript than a book and I suspect that he didn't write it without some assistance.

The whole book was posted their for a long time. I read it and enjoyed it. She basically claims it all started because Charlie was Paranoid over the lottsapopa shooting and evreything kinda snowballed out of that paranoia.

I think it is worth checking out

  31. There was a story on Sandra Goods old ATWA site about W.R. She basically said he came to the ranch one time after the arrests and during the trial period. He was invited by Gypsie but upon arrival was given the old cold shoulder and asked to leave.

  32. As I recall, AC also remembers White Rabbit from Michigan in the 1970's. Check out the interview with AC that is retrievable from the right sidebar on the home page.

WR's "artwork" were scribbles on lined notepaper that he had photocopied, and then would sign for suckers with a ballpoint pen. She saw WR hocking his wares on Haight Street many years back before she knew "who" he was. On Haight Street, he just kind of blended in with the other freaks.

Lauren and Stacey, thanks for making Patty feel not quite so ancient. Her gouty right foot, however, begs to differ.

  40. I always thought that Melton writes as if he reads everything about the case that he can possibly get his hands on, then says "I was there," and retells the story, after inserting himself. Just a gut feeling I got after reading some of his stuff that contained some serious name-dropping. It just did not ring true. But perhaps he actually believes he was there. According to Sandra Good's account, he once did visit the Spahn, but the girls did not like the way he looked/acted, so they sent him away soon after his arrival.

bill nelsons book is good. for as lame of a person as he may have been, his knowledge about this case and the family in general was top notch.
As for Susans book (i had written to Matt and Liz about this not too long ago) i find it VERY interesting. As a matter of fact a lot of it comes off as more believable then most books on the family and the murders. I dont know if its true or whatever. but really she says some stuff, that to me at least,is mind blowing. shes really the first to finally say that helter skelter wasnt the motive. i guess no one believes what she says or id think this book wouldve gotten a lot more coverage on the blogs and forums.

  42. Speaking of Manson books, has anyone here read Manson In His Own Words? I read excerpts from it, and despite the fact that we all know Manson was paraphrased, it has a lot of interesting stories about how he met each girl individually and his take on them. His story about Ruth was really interesting.

Yea, it was a good book though its been over a decade since I've read it.

A couple other favorites of mine are:
Manson Behind the Scenes- Bill Nelson
My Life with Charles Manson- Paul Watkins

Watkins gave a good insight into the family and Nelson brought up some interesting tid bits and facts that weren't really written about previously.

  44. rabbit was too much of a freak even for the manson family. and yes rabbit seems to have memorized helter skelter and the family and inserts himself in all the action. he used to actually quote both books as his memory but got called on it so many times he started mixing things up.
as for the books read them all, every one of them has something to offer even if just for background knowledge for posting on blogs.

I met Melton at the first Zodiac Task Force meeting at Blue Rock Springs in Vallejo, ca. If you look it up on you tube there are some still photographs of me there. I think I had on a maroon t-shirt and olive shorts.
I've met Howard a few times. The first time, we had been corresponding via telephone and mail when I lived in Sacramento. I think it was in 2002 or 2003 Howard, Ed Neil, and I met at Moskowitez Corner. After a few minutes of checking each other out we agreed to drive together to the site of the Hartnell/Shepherd attack at Lake Berryessa. Howard is a very intelligent and kind man. So kind that he doesn't seem to see the homeless guy that's been milking him for bogus information. Then again, I haven't talked to Howard in probably at least 10 years so maybe he's on to this guy now.

  49. Hi Lauren. I met Melton at the first Zodiac Task Force meeting at Blue Rock Springs park in Vallejo, CA. I think that was in 2002 or 2003. I already knew DR.Howard Davis and Ed Neil from a year or two before at our Lake Berryessa meeting at the site of the Hartnell/Shepherd attack.
My take on Melton is that if there was a week old sandwich on the line he would probably confess to the Black Dhalia murder, the JFK and RFK asassinations and anything else he thoght you would like to hear. I never want to see a hungry American so like a lot of homeless people, I would give him a little cash or something to eat but I would have my BS filter on high power.

Well Lauren, I grew up in the SF Bay Area and spent 19 years living in Sacramento. I spent a little more than two years stationed at MCAS El Toro in Orange County (just south of LA County). My buddy Stephen and I decided to take a drive to see the Tate house and the LaBianca house With a combination of these things along with studying the case since 1987 and being an avid reader at the time I was bound to meet some of the people who for the most part are caring, kind, intelligent and eager to share information

  51. I had the unfortunate pleasure of corresponding for a short period of time in the early 2000s with mr. Melton. Mr. Melton found that I was in touch with a few of the kids that lived on the ranch and started corresponding with me. I found him to be not credible and short of being a pathological liar. Every story he would tell, even though they were supposed to be the same story, contained different details and sometimes the story was altogether different. I can't speak to what mr. Melton agenda was, all I can say is that eventually I had to stop all communication.
