Uncle Rico starring in .............
Everybody probably knew this already, but just thought I would post it anyway, just for shits & giggles......As you may know, Napolean Dynamite has become a true Hollywood cult-classic. Well, actually, I just think it is funny as shit, regardless of the film's status....BUT.... Did you know that the actor who played "Uncle Rico" so well in Napolean Dynamite ALSO played a minor, supporting role in another Hollywood classic? Yes, you are reading this correctly: Uncle Rico, who was played by Jon Gries ALSO played "William Garretson" in Helter Skelter (1976 version)!! What movie trivia! How about a clip? You do have to skip to 11:31 to see the part I am referring to.
Don't forget, he was also the homeless guy in a couple of Seinfeld episodes. The guy who finds George's toupee and won't give Kramer his Tupperware back.

My favorite part is when Kip tries to demonstrate the durability of the tuperware bowl to a potential customer, and he runs over the bowl, and it breaks. He says something like "dang it" and drives off in Uncle Rico's juicy van.

ReplyDeleteThe director of Helter Skelter is Tom Gries, Jon's father. There is also a Steve Gries in the cast, who played "Clem" - maybe a brother? Anyway I am a big fan of Jon Gries ever since he played Broots on NBC's Pretender, and he did a great job in this movie. Cute too!

ReplyDeleteHere's another fun fact: one of the television guys who sets out & finds the bloody clothing down the embankment in the 1976 movie is played by Jonathan Goldsmith. He is now best known as the most interesting man in the world in the Dos Equis beer ads. He is riding shotgun in the station wagon.
