Hanging out with Michael on his Back Porch!

Disclaimer: The Backporch Tapes is a private collection that is shown to very few people. It is kept in a secret location away from Michael's house. Please don't go trying to contact him asking for a tour. He will politely refuse.

Suffice it to say that Michael Channels doesn't have a Manson collection. He has a fucking MUSEUM! We spent all day with him in that room and I feel like we only scratched the surface. He was a gracious host and was extremely generous with his time, knowledge and experiences. We cannot possibly thank him enough.

His stories & memories of his visits with Manson were pretty fascinating, too. Some of it we can never repeat. LOL. You'll have to ask him yourself.

It was an honor to get to know him. He's a cool guy with his own Manson Museum. Afterwards he took us to George Spahn's grave where we sat around in the grass & shot the shit for a while about life in general. A great time!

You can see Manson wearing this sweatshirt HERE

This is a label inside the tongue of one of Manson's boots. Manson must have some pretty big dogs because I wear an 11 1/2 and my foot had room to swim in there!

Matt, walking in Manson's shoe!

Dice made by Manson from soap.

At one point Michael looked at me and said,
"Do you have a comic book written about you from prison?
No? Well I DO!" LOL.
Well, he does...

George Spahn's grave.

As an added treat, here is an interview Mike just did with Manson. As a humorous footnote, at about 8:07 you'll here Mike's phone beep. That was me (Matt) texting him. Lol.

  4. The photo of that face on Sharon Tate's grave is disturbingly freaky! It scared me. That's all I have to say about that......

  7. Did you have to wear blindfolds to get to his secret location?

  8. Patty had to duck out early to go home and take final exams. After seeing what she missed, she's kind of regretting that decision!

  9. Deb's toes made some cute cameo appearances in these photos, no?

  10. Just got done listening to the phonecall. Patty can't decide if Charlie is just old, or into his own head to an extreme, or maybe getting a little senile. Someone somewhere else recently said, "Wouldn't it be something if Charlie lives long enough to not be Charlie any more?" Things that make you go, hmmmm.

  11. another Wow!!

In addition to the hot spots- you seem to have met with all the tops dogs as well..

I have never engaged with Mike but go over to his website frequently and watch videos and listen to the chat. Great spot and obviously a very informed guy...

You guys got a crash course on Mansonology from very knowledgeable people...

Really all your missing is Bugs to walk you around the courthouse and you made it a clean sweep lol

    Great stuff!

  12. The visit to Michael's was so special! If Michael's had been our first stop I would have stayed there the entire time we were in LA, just reading and exploring. Everything that he picked up to show us was accompanied by an interesting story. His collection is vast and varied.

  14. That booking tab for Manson was from when he and Danny beat Miriam Decarlo!

  15. Matt,
Three questions from a one time shoe salesman about the boots. Did you have it on the correct foot? When did Charlie own them? Do you know that they were a good fit on him. It seems highly unlikely that a person as tiny as Charlie would have feet larger than 11 1/2.

  16. Orwut, I had the boot on the correct foot. I have no clue when he owned them.

I have a childhood friend who is like 5'6" and has bigger feet than me, so it's possible.

Maybe that's where Manson got the springs to jump onto the judges desk!

  17. Matt,
I nearly forgot. The reason I asked when Charlie owned the boots, is that I thought he might have borrowed them from Dennis Wilson.
