Fountain of the World Bombing

This was published in June 1967 in Police Detective magazine quite a few months before Charlie and Co. arrived at Spahn Ranch.   Some crazy shit was happening up in them thar hills!

  1. I miss those detective mags. The last ones I read were imports from England.

  2. Several Family visited the Box Canyon Rd compound.

Much earlier the FOTW members helped rescue some passengers from the Standard Airlines flt 897R. Bound from Albuquerque to the Hollywood Lockheed airport, the plane crashed in bad weather.

One survivor was Caren Marsh Doll, who married Bill Doll. Bill was a press agent for Mike Todd. Ten years later Todd would be flying from Hollywood-Lockheed, in a heavily modified Lockheed Lodestar, named Lucky Liz. That plane crashed east of Albuquerque, killing the four onboard. So that's kind of Twilight Zone-y. The Lucky Liz was named after Todd's wife, Elizabeth Taylor. Yep, the same Taylor that Manson had on his hit list.

Driving back to Spahn's from the FOTW, you will pass a road on the left named North American Cut Off. Named for North American Aviation, builders of the P-51 Mustang, B-25, and Apollo rocket components. One of the employees there in the mid 50's was Irving Kanarek, who went on to be one of the Family's more flamboyant defense attorneys.

    Truly a Manson vortex.

  3. Farf, your ability to notice coincidental minutia and link it together in cohesive way never ceases to amaze me.

  4. Well I dont know about the rest of you but im ordering #668 from the ad on the last page :)

  5. I'm glad I'm not the only one bold enough to admit reading that ad! LOLOLOLOL!

Times sure have changed. Hard to believe anyone bought lingerie on a black & white magazine ad. Le Bustiere Boutique with a mild buzz is the way to go!

  6. I thought the ad looked farmiliar, myself. Sure do miss those magazines.

  8. Lol they sure have changed Suze..see the price!!! Altho some things dont ..seems like Col still has his frilly knickers in a knot....

Whut, I love the old detective magazines, too. I have a huge collection of them. I tend to get them in lots where there are multiple issues for a cheaper price. That's how I got this article, there was no hint that it was in the magazine so it was a great surprise when I went through the stack and found it.

Penny Lane.... the ads are priceless. So dated that they are almost quaint. Please send us a picture of you in those drawers with the fringe when you get them. LMAO

  11. FARFLUNG: Just keep a rock'in.

PENNEY & SUZE: I know the man WHO made that mail order a million dollar business.
He said WIGS and something else made HIM mucho $$$. Could NEVER figure WHY TEX was trying to SELL them on the street like a geek when HE had to of heard mail order was the way to go. I think TEX was simply one of those guys who NEEDED a way to talk to woman. How sad.

Congratulations COL on the green lite for another "Transformers" movie. Can YOU tell ME where I can find YOUR name on the Copyrights ? Cause whoever owns THOSE would NEVER have time to fuck with little old ME.

Seriously COL the website YOU list is just another bunch of 'I don't even know how to describe them.' - BUT they are part of the "Internet Archive."

YOU know, IF you just call up the U.S. Copyright Office and explain WHO you are, they will surely give you a $$ discount to look up the info you want. I simply can't figure out what the hell you WANT. IF you want for MY Manson films to be un-copyrightable, just THINK of ALL the media materials that would ALSO be un-copyrightable IF that were so.

Hey, maybe "Transformers" is un-copyrightable. Are YOU listening Stevie? Oh. I'm sorry, you still having a hard time with that left ear?

  12. Consider it done Debs...as soon as they arrive i will take a frilly arse selfie....lmao....Can i ask Debs do u buy the old mags online?

  13. Penny Lane - apologies for going off-topic (the topic being the FotW business / RH's Manson copyright status as ever), but would you happen to be the same pennylane whose comments I often see on Madeleine McCann forums?

  14. I fully realize EVERYONE is tired of reading about MY "copyrights" BUT our beloved COL has some cause to be confused and here is HOW it is relevant to EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in America.

In America WE were primarily founded by and NOW governed by TWO (2) principal governments (the Federal AND a State government.) Each has it's own LAWS and sometimes they override, but in 1976 the Federal government abolished every State's RIGHT to have its own 'copyright law.' Thus replacing ALL State's RIGHTS to have their own Copyright Law with ONE Federal Copyright LAW.

So prior to 1976 IF you were an inhabitant of one of the United States, you could 'copyright" your "work" under your state's LAW or you could 'copyright' it under the Federal government's 1909 Copyright Act.

Does ANYONE see where this is ALL going ? YES "marriage" is NOW a "state's" RIGHT, but can, at any time, be made ONLY to be governed under Federal LAW. "VOTING", is of course, most likely to be the NEXT target for Federal Government takeover.

TRUE, because the Federal Government is MORE liberal, maybe it should be the ruling body for ALL.

But THINK carefully, when the Federal government is the ONLY ruling body, America will NO longer be the Nation our forefathers intended. ...AND "Jesus" (heyzus) Rodrigus will be the KING.

  15. pennylane, you sound nervous. I assure you, I do not work for Carter-Ruck, Clarence Mitchell, or the McCanns. No need to hide your light under a bushel if it is you. If it is, we're in agreement on that particular case. If not, or if you genuinely don't know, then..... apologies for disturbing you :)

  16. Farf, I'm an expatriated New Yorker. They just need me here in NC to keep an eye on the Potty Police.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ummm Robert

Copyright Law has always been FEDERAL, it was drafted by Congress. Your ignorance continues to be astonishing. I cannot find proof of the 1972 registration what did you renew?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Its not me MHN I was just being a smartarse ...:)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Penny Lane.... I do buy the detective mags online, mostly from Ebay. The years I'm most interested in are the mid 60s pretty much through the 70s though I have some a lot older and newer, too.

I just added one of my favorite covers, for obvious reasons, from Sept. 1955, to the bottom of the post.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks Debs Ive never actually seen or read one of these mags...so your post was a real treat for me....thx again

    ReplyDelete
  21. Robert - did I detect some anti-Latino bias in your comment? Building a wall sure didn't keep Tex Watson away from Cielo but it sure did make Roger Waters a very rich man.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Front Page Detective could serve as a cultural experiment.

That Hell Deb looks dangerous, edgy, and perhaps braless. Plus in the 50's, ladies wore dresses, cocktail dresses.

I imagine most millennials would notice the cigarette.

    ReplyDelete
  23. YES I am probably stupid, but what does that say about the 58 percent WHO decide WHO the leader of the FREE world will be ?

ANYBODY want to help the COL out ? Deb ? CLUE: "Freedom of Information Act." Of course, then YOU half to TRUST the Federal Government, which puts YOU right back in Andy Gump's kitchen.

NOW, why don't YOU tell ME why you want a copy of the original MANSON copyright registration ?
OH, so you THINK that may provide YOU with an excuse to COP some of Paul Watkins dialogue ?

ASK Geraldo Rivera, major studios and TV stations all over America how that worked for THEM. They all got "copies" of my MANSON copyright registration.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Col, here is what I found regarding the copyright on Manson.

    http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?Search_Arg=pa0000104333&Search_Code=REGS&PID=GX7DPCFXX5DbcNlDdEOvb5Cwn&SEQ=20160518153610&CNT=25&HIST=1

  25. Very helpful Deb. Goes to show you that rather than just be straight Robert wants to obfuscate and mislead. He said 1972 and it is 1973. It was copyrighted my MERRICK INTERNATIONAL PICTURES. But a different entity renewed the copyright. Research continues.

Robert- I do not need an excuse to utilize Paul Watkins dialogue from Manson in a narrative film. I just can. Thanks for playing.

  26. I've long seen reports that Ted Bundy blamed pornography for his crimes and was curious as to exactly what kind of porn he meant. Not long ago I ran across something that indicated he was talking about the pictures on the fronts of detective magazines. Apparently, one man's porn is another man's cover art.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Holy cow COL - I always knew you had some serious emotional issues, BUT what the fuck, did Debra finally throw your clothes out into the street ?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Actually it is a renewal from 1972: Renewal registration for: PA0000104333 / 1972-09-01

    http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=8&ti=1,8&Search%5FArg=Manson&Search%5FCode=TALL&CNT=25&PID=0eBwd1sGN_1OlO7Y5SFlYjD9x87_&SEQ=20160518202455&SID=1

And it does appear to be in his name: Copyright Claimant: Robert Hendrickson d.b.a. Tobann International Pictures (PWH)

    Can this maybe end now.

    Fun original post though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Robert- did you register the film in 1972 or 1973 or 1981? I mean actually file it...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Apparently not.

    If I read it correctly.....September 1, 1972

    ReplyDelete
  31. PS: registrations prior to 1978 can not be found on line. You have to pay for a hands-on search. See website, FAQ (or trust me) so all you see here is the post 1978 renewal, although it does tell you the original submission number and date of submission:

    PA0000104333 / 1972-09-01

    ReplyDelete

  32. @Dreath - It's on that website, but it's not an easy site to maneuver.

Just paste or type PA0000104333 into the search box and click "Registration Number" for the type of search that you're doing, then click "Begin Search". There will be 2 results. The second one is the original claim.

When you find it - note the "Registration Number / Date:" - that was when the claim was filed.

The publication date of 1972-09-01 refers to when the work was first "published", which in this case, was when it was shown at the Venice Film Festival.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, ziggy, I get that and understand that- the second part... why does someone like me who comes here to learn and read give a flying F why these two guys insist on battling over a (50 year old) copyright on a movie 99.9% of the world never saw.

So much of what is here is so much more interesting.

Yet every time I read a post there it is "when did you register your copyright?" (that earned you what$$?)

    I miss the 'other' site.

    Apologize to all. Goodnight.

    Gone.

I was asked about two years ago to review some trial transcripts there by a friend. it was a very good site.

    ReplyDelete

  36. You're probably already aware of this, but if not, the former members of Cats' site have been migrating to murdersofaugust69 - a website that was started a few years ago by former members of TOTLB. There's a discussion in the "Have I been banned" thread on what happened to TOTLB, but no one seems to know.

I also liked the TOTLB site. I wasn't a member, but it was a great resource and the people who posted there were both knowledgeable and entertaining. Sad to see it go.

Does anyone here have any insight into what happened/why it's down/if it will ever be back up?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Actually, I was not aware of that. Thank you.

  38. O.T. Beausolei
I downloaded a book about the FBI's 10 most wanted. Number 33 was named Beausolei. https://m.fbi.gov/#https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/topten-history/hires_images/FBI-033-IsaieAldyBeausoleil.jpg/view
The book didn't mention whether he was related to Bobby.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I too enjoyed the TOTLB site, and others, but I can honestly say I've learned more about the history and minutiae of copyright issues in the USA on this blog than any of those others. The other Manson-related blogs tend to be focused too narrowly on the history and crimes of the Manson Family.

Thanks for that, Col. Great work.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thank you, Michael. We are thinking about morphing into the copyright wing of LexisNexis. Or maybe an advertising forum for struggling TLB sites.

  43. @Matt - "Or maybe an advertising forum for struggling TLB sites" - meow! Best laugh of the day so far.

  44. I certainly DON'T want to continue any of this "copyright" discussion - either, BUT if YOU don't understand the intellectual "reasoning" behind "copyrights" and "trademarks" (intellectual property) YOU will NEVER understand the "motivations" behind ANY conduct - GOOD or BAD,
    including murder.

AND if YOU don't understand "intellectual" reasoning, YOU will be adrift in a sea of emotion FOREVER.

"Prefeteria" said HE detects some "anti-Latino" color in MY comment, because I mention that WE are due for a Latin KING. BUT if I say WE are NOT even close to being due for a QUEEN, I would surely be called "anti-woman." OR at least anti-Hilary.

Unfortunately, WE live in a totally "anti" (adversarial) society. Charlie Manson and the Family were "anti-PIGs" and at a minimum I am an anti-DENTITE.

So WHY don't we ALL just say "fuck-it" to ALL laws and codes of conduct. Like remember when
"Buddy the Bully" picked on YOU in front of all the other KIDS and YOU dreamed of picking-up a baseball bat and bashing HIS brains to bits" ? Cause it'll NEVER get any better than that, YOUR
    wildest dreams come true !

    ReplyDelete
  45. Does anyone know why Col is so fixated on Robert ....he seems furious and i dont understand why...i also dont understand why robert doesnt just tell him to fuck off...politely of course..:) Please enlighten me !

  48. GOOD question Penny:

My guess is HE woke-up one morning and SAW what 50 years OLD looks like. It's the breaking point for most men. HE's the "producer" of "Transformers." Ta Dah, that's HIS legacy, but like Godzilla or the Ninga Turtles, one day folks will ONLY laugh at the childish nature of such Cartoons.

HIS greatest works were Natural Born Killers AND Apt Pupil, BUT who owns the Copyrights to those ?

ACTORS and Directors are remembered - to some extent - but PRODUCERS, name 3 from the 1960's and YOU qualify for film historian.

So who do YOU blame for YOUR personal situation ? The Devil ? Charles Manson ? Awh, Robert Hendrickson, he's knows C.M. and Bruce Davis, etc. I get this more than you can imagine.

I mean, look at ME, I blame LBJ for the shit my brothers had to go through, BUT when I had ALL my marbles, I knew somebody had to have put LBJ in the position where HE could perpetrate HIS human destruction. Bingo, MY parents, and a generation who was brought-up on WAR. So rather than face the ugly TRUTH, it's so much easier to direct your frustration at Charles Manson. AND that makes sense to ME.

  49. So, did Krishna Venta make it or not?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Starship, thanks for asking! LOL Krishna Venta aka Francis Herman Pencovic died in the blast. The cult/whatever continued until about the mid 70s.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Deb S, is that guy who's writing that book on him anywhere closer to finishing it? I see Amazon only has the one book that was always getting pulled apart for inacuracies about the Manson crowd's involvement with them, so I'm loathe to pay big money for it.

I get the impression Manson would have been keen to move on in on the Fountain but couldnt manage a takeover.

I would love to have a better understanding of why Manson only had a small number of hardcore devotees. Was it out of choice or did he lack the skills to get the numbers up, or did he only appeal to a particular kind of psychological make-up?

I'm always surprised that the Krishna Venta killers aren't recognised as early suicide bombers.

The copyright thing, I dont know, there appears to be a point to prove that Mr Hendrickson fucked up somewhere along the way, whether it is about ownership, lost revenue, or opportunities is beyond me.

He won't sell to my country so it could be argued he is a censor preventing the peoples around the world accessing ideas he chooses to control access to masquerading it as copy right protection.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Christopher, I think you are talking about Shawn Sutherland who has a great Krishna Venta blog. I just checked it for any word on a book and nothing. He should do a book because he has so much material and he's very obsessed with the topic.

I think Manson would have liked to have been at the location of the Fountain of the World. It was more secluded than Spahn. Apparently he could not sweet talk those women into moving on! I suspect he got the idea of ATWA, Air Trees Water Animals, from the Fountain of the World whose tag line, if you will, was WKFL, Wisdom Knowledge Faith Love. Charlie was never above borrowing and adapting ideas.

As for why Charlie did not have a larger number of hardcore followers, I think he did have the ability to attract more people but so many people who were with him in the last few months have said the vibe changed, got negative and heavy. People became scared and started leaving. I think Charlie, too, began to appreciate the logistics of feeding and housing a large number of people. It became a strain and a responsibility that he did not really want.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The Fountain Of The World also utilized grocery store dumpster diving to procure food. Sound familiar?

Jim Jones of The People's Temple used girls in blue dresses as recruiting "tools".

Unbelievably (to me) three former members from The Fountain Of The World, managed to migrate to Guyana, and die in Jonestown, along with .... Five of their children. What did they learn from the first bombing?

I watched a docu on the Branch Davidians of Waco where a survivor recalled his previous association with The People's Temple. He betrayed no sense of irony (like surviving Hiroshima to flee to Nagasaki), or any weight of a lesson learned. I truly believe he will meet his demise via the latest nut claiming to be JC. Amazing.

I doubt that that is my Legacy and I think people laugh at them now. I am very happy with my age and my life. But your personal attacks speak volumes as to your true demeanor Sir. I am simply trying to keep you and your babbling on target. You have fucking sued people over this film and this footage and I do not think you have a valid claim. THAT IS SICKENING TO ME. I blame you for nothing. The few times I met you I liked you a lot. I like both your movies a lot. Now, if you have been defrauding people like Debra Tate...

I mean, look at ME, I blame LBJ for the shit my brothers had to go through, BUT when I had ALL my marbles, I knew somebody had to have put LBJ in the position where HE could perpetrate HIS human destruction. Why don't you leave the guy alone - or, if you're so determined to investigate what belongs to him and what doesn't (everyone has to have a hobby, right?) go start another blog and stop ruining this one.

The ** vast majority ** of the young free spirits didn't buy into Charlie from the get go. We all knew back then 'the scene' and where the communes, cults and edgy types were ... better than even the police. We just considered the latter two bad news and steered clear. A lot of people entered and exited his sphere. That's how the word spread.

Paul Watson said later in an interview that most of the inner core Family were really overachievers and there may be an element of truth to that but then there were thousands of run-aways and kids from dysfunctional families running around that didn't sign on.

  62. In my quest for pattern recognition, I've found the likes of Manson, Jones, and Applewhite, to be more akin to filter feeders rather than leaders. Like filter feeders they catch differing prey.

The prey have one thing in common, in that they are incapable of exercising any self reliance. They prefer "others" to decide what they eat, where they live, and who to have sex with, or not. For a large portion of society the simplest decisions are monumental. You may have stood behind one of these people in a MacDonald's.

Manson had a Family which many were searching for. Jones took care of minorities via their collective Social Security benefits. Applewhite used their collective financial power from W2 wages to rent a mansion. He also castrated himself, and five others did the same. What sort of "leadership" would inspire one to do that? What sort of congregation wouldn't run (RUN) for the hills after their leader did that to himself?

These people are right where they want to be. No charisma, no brainwashing, no hypnotic hold, this is how these people are wired.

Congressman Ryan was murdered by the Jim Jones cult. Later the Rajneesh cult of The Dells, Oregon attacked the city with food poisoning. One of the cult members was a child of Ryan's. Your father was killed by a cult, yet you join one. Words escape me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh yes, the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho)- and the Rajneeshees. I had almost forgotten about the Rajneeshees. Headquartered at Muddy Ranch (Rajneeshpuram) near Antelope, Oregon. They launched a massive attack on salad bars in the Dalles, Oregon and throughout Wasco and Jefferson counties to sicken the entire population of both counties just before the 1984 election. They wanted to "seize" political control. They wore all red (no blue) and hung out on street corners in Portland chanting, dancing and singing.

  78. What the fuck Chuck, I had to PULL almost every tooth in your mouth to get to the TRUTH - YOU are "sickened" because I SUE people over MY films which YOU think are NOT mine.

    Tell that to YOUR "shrink."

I SELL my films over seas via eBay's forwarding service, but one has to "pay" extra for that service. Money still makes the world go round.

Mark Huntington is the "baby" Joan and Laurence were adopting when HE was silenced. Last I heard from someone who actually met HIM, he was a security guard, patrolling the dangerous streets of Palm Springs. That person also talked to Joan, who was complaining about HER horribly violent nightmares.

You should get a hold of HER and she might tell you Mucho good stuff, maybe even about SHE and Mr. "B."

Hey listen, most everyone I SUED are thrilled that's ALL I did.

AND if you are pissed that I sued eBay for facilitating the sale of my MANSON film - counterfeited in bulk by some spaghetti slingers out of Jersey - YOU got a REAL problem Amigo.

    AMEN

  87. Sorry for going OFF topic HERE, but this is related.

Yesterday Morley Safer of 60 minutes died. HE was the CBS reporter on the ground in Vietnam in August of 1965 (beginning of LBJs WAR build-up) when some of U.S. "finest" torched the Vietnam Village of Cam Ne. This barbaric, but American ritualistic practice was "filmed" and put on the evening NEWs. (This is WHY American soldiers carried "Zippo" lighters.)

So WHY is this significant when the women and children of Vietnam were ONLY considered to be little more than animals ? Because U.S President LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON immediately called up his friend (the President of CBS) to complain that HE had just "spat" on the American flag by showing an American atrocity to the American people. This shows that the worthless PIG farmer from Hickabilly USA KNEW exactly what was going on in Vietnam, because HE was the EVIL "cult" leader WHO actually ignited that FIRST great American RACE WAR.

NOW let's ALL keep-on worshiping Jesus and hating that real Devil of a man Charles Manson for ending the 1960s and the Vietnam WAR. MY God, don't you just love to remember the smell of burning Gooks in the morning ?

  88. Another cult that was in the area back in the 1920s was The Cult of the Great Eleven aka The Blackburn Cult. Led by a woman, May Otis Blackburn, this cult was possibly more dangerous than Charlie could ever think of being primarily because Blackburn or any other member of the cult were never held accountable for their crimes. Check out the book "Cult of the Great Eleven" by Samuel Fort, it's available on Kindle. Read the acknowledgements, you might recognize someone's name.

Merrick was murdered as we know. We just don't know by whom or for what.

I cannot imagine that a copyright would be worth killing over.

Anyway I need to dig out my posters of the original film release. If they have a copyright date then it might be protected. Whether YOU have the rights are still open to debate.

  100. Matt and Patty,
    I don't like to bitch.
I enjoy reading everybody's comments, mostly.
I just do not understand why so much off-topic fighting has to keep going on between Colenol and Robert.
The name calling. Colonel has made some insightful posts. But he also can be vicious.
I contribute rarely, that is true.
I apologize for asking for fighting to be taken to private e-mail.
I did not think I asked rudely.
And I was trying to add humor with my "Melrose Place" comment.
I always have enjoyed you and Patty on here.
I never have meant any harm on this blog.

  101. May I ask, what is the big deal about the copyright situation of "Manson?"
    Was I missing something here?
It is kind of odd, I admit, Robert has never re-released it to Netflix streaming, Hulu, or a low budget dvd label.
Certainly, there would be minor interest in it.
But why is the Colonel so interested? Does he want to use footage from it?
Is he just wanting to dis-prove he still owns the rights?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Both The Col and RH are contributors, not just in the comments but behind the scenes as well. If they want to argue they can argue. So far neither has emailed us with complaints. If they were two lurkers, this wouldn't have lasted a minute.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Matt, fair enough.
    Just wondering why.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Seger- There are deep reasons why. I tried to deal with Grandpa via email but that failed. As far as disruptive it is a comment section on the internet. Don't freaking read it then.

And far from Robert's attacks, I sincerely HOPE he does own the rights. In an ideal world that would be the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Colonel,
    True.
I guess somebody must own the rights, otherwise it would be public domain and available.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'll bet a round of margaritas at El Coyote that RH holds the copyright, or at the very least shares it with Merrick's estate.

It needs time to heal a bit and then no one will even remember that it was an issue. Let's just ride it out and continue with any off-topic topic that suits your fancy!

    ReplyDelete

  112. @Matt - I also think that Robert Hendrickson owns the copyright to "Manson".

We've covered this before in some of the previous threads where this was discussed. He registered it in 1981 with the US Copyright Office and then there were various assignments of copyright and a quitclaim on Merrick, so the film is solely his, as far as the US Copyright Office is concerned.

As far as the question as to the validity of his claim to copyright, I guess we can either take his word for it, or research the court case involving him and Merrick, and also try to find a copy of the original 1973 print of the film to see if a copyright notice was put on it.

But that might not even have mattered, since the film was first published in Italy and that probably means that it falls under the Berne Convention, not US copyright law. (More research would be needed to confirm that.)

And then if you did find out that his claim was invalid, you'd then have to go through the process of proving it.

And then if it's proven to be Public Domain - everybody owns it. In other words - what's the fucking point?

You're lucky you have the option to subscribe or not. No such luck here: to watch ANY live television on any network without paying a handsome tax to the BBC results in prosecution, fines, or imprisonment. More than one in ten criminal prosecutions in the UK is for non-payment of the BBC tax, two-thirds of those being women, because women are more likely to be at home when the inspector knocks on the door. The BBC has an extorted budget of nearly three and a half BILLION pounds, enforced by threatening letters and mass prosecutions.

Their worldwide image is totally undeserved. They stink.

  126. I was going to give this BLOG a rest, BUT the "comments" coming in on "All the Way" HBO's LBJ Bio-pic are pumping ME with words of encouragement to FINALY do something on the 1960s AGAIN. I had NO idea that so many like ME despised the REAL "Charlie Manson" (LBJ) so much.

I mean Obama, Hillary and Bill SEE him as a role model, BUT I didn't even KNOW my Vietnam brothers, also hated the Mother-Fucker so much.

AND why is "Stevie One Ear" behind this LBJ thing ? Could it be even HE realized THIS mass-murdering SOB caused HIM to be Banned from ever touching the subject of HIS emotional baggage ?

Apparently this LBJ movie actually reveals LBJ's mental "brotherhood" with the EVIL Mr. Manson.

Many years ago I started the "Piss on LBJs Grave" project." Maybe NOW it can finally come to fruition.

  129. Robert, you may find this question trite or facile and prefer not to address it, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

In your time with the Family what rough percentage of their talk would you say was spiritual / religious, as opposed to outright political? I'm aware that the distinction between the two might not be cut-and-dried, but when the cameras were off would their vocabulary be spiritual/religious, political, or... sociological? And if it was spiritual, would you say it was personal-spiritual or (for want of a better phrase) cosmic spiritual?

Or was this, to them, all the same thing?

If the answer is "LBJ" then I'll do my best to decode that.

Now, to answer YOUR question: I never mind it when I find Mrs MHN messing around with the postman. Because "the postman" is her nickname for Mr MHN's man-post. Alas, the postman does not always ring twice.

Please don't give the blog a rest!

    P.S.
You know, If you would ever apply your research abilities to the Zodiac Killer, you might catch the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Researching for Sam was a challenge. I'd never researched that far back before, the majority was between about the 1890s through the 1930s but it took us all the way to the 1970s. It was such a huge span of time to sort through. Like the Family there were many people in the Blackburn Cult to follow up on and there were people that just seem to drop off the face of the earth. Tons of addresses, too.

We tracked and found most of them though. There are still a handful of children of the original members living but they're in their 70s and 80s now.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Now you've really got me interested, Deb. I'm a slow reader and wanted to finish another book, but I my have to get the one on the Blackburn cult going before I finish.

  135. MICHAEL: Great question - but everyone kind'a had THEIR own thing, except for certain subjects.

IF you read "Death to Pigs" you would see the answer better. A primary subject was THEIR parents and what they and the "establishment" had done to create the MANSON Family. NO-body really wants to hear the TRUTH about the Family's beliefs, thoughts or ideas, because they don't mesh with traditional American values. BUT in many respects THEIR values were identical to those of our politicians at the time. They just labeled those values differently.

The Family believed the cities would have to be burned / destroyed and then rebuilt via a re-start program. Of course that's exactly what our politicians believe when THEY bomb the fuck out of villages and cities in places like Vietnam and Iraq.

BUT nobody wants to KILL women and children in the PROCESS, so politicians created the words "collateral damage," but the Family, being newbies at the "process" didn't realize that the RIGHT "words" provide the permissions necessary to create a new and improved society.

The religious THOUGHT was best described by Gypsy as: "The thought of Jesus dying on the cross is nearing completion."

I could go on and on, but by all the comments to this POST (the most ever) most folks are obviously more interested in "copyright" or big breasted women in tight red sweaters.

Here's a THOUGHT: The Family would sometimes mention the "Mason's" as controlling Politics, the Court's, etc. etc. MY grandfather was a very high ranking Mason / Shriner in the Beverly Hills Chapter and Sandy was NOT just talking BS.

It's kind'a like aware Americans are NOW realizing - THEY do NOT select the President of the US.

    ReplyDelete
  136. MICHAEL: here's what I mean. There's a real estate ad in today's newspaper. It shows a nice "new" home in Sherman Oaks for: "Mid $1 Millions" and again: "pricing starting in the mid $1 millions."
So exactly WHAT is the price ? Is it $500,000 OR 1,500,000?

So when the Prosecution advertises the Manson Family as a "Love and Terror" Cult, is it saying: "a wild and crazy wing of the Catholic Church, OR LBJ's extreme branch of the Democratic Party.

As for the THOUGHT of Jesus Christ dying on the cross nearing completion - is there anyone left WHO actually has one of those "plaster of paris" Jesus ICONS still hanging in the living room, OR did they finally get tired of all the blood dripping onto the carpet ?

It's all about "words," "inflation" and the present cost to own a home. ANYTHING else is spiritual in nature, BUT who actually lives in "nature" anymore ?

  143. As a fresh arrival in England (1981), I asked for directions to a car parts (spares) store (shop).

The response in "English" was; Right, it's bang down the pavement, past the skips, just before that lorry, next to the chemist.

I thanked him for the directions and began walking, while pondering if I had suffered a mild stroke, while realizing I understood everything he said, but had no idea what it meant.

  144. Thanks Ziggy for taking the time to add some intelligence to the "copyright" issue.

AND guess what folks: "Benny Hill" was my favorite TV show of ALL time. He was MY hero.

In fact, I actually made a film called "Close Shave" and HE was my imaginary co-director.

We ALL know HE was the greatest "funny man" of all time and I used to imagine HE would go on a date with the queen and even join the Manson Family. LOL

So I made this outrageous comedy as IF Benny was the director, BUT the Motion Picture Association rated it quadruple XXXX. There was no nudity or foul language or blatant sex scenes, it was all suggestive, just like Benny would do. They could NOT tell me what to CUT out, but that the whole movie idea was disgusting. The major laboratory who was to make the prints asked me to take my film and go elsewhere.

After cutting this and that they finally said IF you cut out the 2 Penises, we will give you an "R" rating. I screamed, BUT they are NOT penises, they are 2 talking rubber dildos, but try and explain to anal dead heads that a talking penis can be considered a "funny" joke. Especially when the heads were painted to look like real heads.

Anyway, my only REAL wish in life was to have Benny see my "Close Shave" and I know he would have loved it. IF I ever get to heaven, I'll bring it with me and have a screening for Benny and his loving fans.

  151. Farflung, On the subject of unhelpful directions - in the lovely Chevy Chase film Funny Farm a couple of guys from NYC driving a large removals van are lost in the countryside and stop to ask directions to Dog Creek Road from the gnarly old-timer sat on his porch in a rocking chair. He replies,

"If I was going to Dog Creek Rd I sure as hell wouldn't start from here! ... Swing around and go back the way you came, but this time turn right near where the old Hollinshed barn used to be, then, about five miles before the road dead-ends, veer left and follow the railroad tracks straight into a town called Beaver Mills... or you could take the bridge at the fork in the road here and save yourself a heap of time.... [they drive off rapidly towards the fork in the road] ... but I wouldn't go that way if I were you..."

I know what you mean farflung, when you understand the individual words you think you're in control, and if it were me I would drive a mile before realising I could never know where the old Hollinshed barn used to be, or when I was five miles before the dead-end.

Language and power. Words that obfuscate even as they pretend to inform, a road with a dead end, (hello Cielo!) and an old shed. I'm back in Spahn, back on topic. I can breathe...

The Judge even commented, "What is the eBay attorney doing HERE." It was for a hearing on the jurisdictional issue, regarding making Pizza pushers travel all the way cross-country to court when THEIR crime occurred in Jersey. The eBay lawyer even sat up front with the Gumba lawyer during the proceeding.

It was almost like the eBay lawyer was going to suck on the Gumba lawyer's bread-stick at any moment.

PS: the close friend of mine who actually grew-up with East-Coast MOB kids, and WHO actually made contact with the Mob ring in Jersey for ME, got caught in the middle of strong personal loyalties on both sides.

He asked ME to let the GoodFellas take care of their own.

The lesson here: Don't buy individual slices from a pizza palace, THEY invented those "warmers" for a reason.

  160. @Robert Hendrickson - So I guess he's gone, and they couldn't do nutting about it.

You know the film "The Omega Man"? One might view it as sort of a metaphor for your fight against the copyright violators/pirates. There's kind of Manson connection to that movie too, in that the albino mutants are called "The Family", which was no doubt inspired by the Manson gang.

I see some similarities between yourself and the Chuck Heston character in that movie. Do you own any leisure suits, Robert?

  161. Long time reader, first time commenter. I was just doing some reading today and came across a statement where Charlie seems to say that Krishna Venta actually commited suicide with some of his followers to protest the privatization of water rights, and that this fact was covered up by those in power. Anyway, I always love a good conspiracy theory and thought that one was worth sharing here.
