  4. Nice clear film of Camp Spahn, though:
the Ranch and area didn't burn down in 1969 and the 'nightclub' was not a night club 'for teenagers.'
It was quite short lived and was stopped, and it was a dumb idea, to say the least.
    And,
the big fire occurred and I am convinced that someone went to the hills behind the spread and lit up a part there so that they would be assured that the buildings went down. The Clampitt fire was the name of that disaster in California in 1970.
    Also,
what's up with places and names?
Am I to understand that, at one time, the Spahn Spa and dud, er...dude Ranch was owned by a lady by the name of- Sharon Atkins? What the hey!
Incidentally, I suspected that the area right by the spread was lit up as vengeance by a person or two before, but when a couple of guys in a restaurant, in Chatsworth told me that they knew some people in town that saw two guys, middle aged walking up a hill
with some metal container and they surmised that they, the strangers, started a fire nearby. This was said to me in the year of our Lord, 2007.
Sharon Atkins? For the love of all that's...
The whole thing is, I mean...

Dr. Sharon Marion Atkins (1890-1969) was a prominent Hollywood physician. Despite the first name, he was a man. He owned the property later known as the Spahn Ranch from 1928-1947. I always have found the name ironic, along with the fact that he died in 1969.

  6. @panamint patty. Well he is the Spahn Ranch Worker.
It's his baby so to speak.....do you prefer "mildly irritated"

  7. He only gets irritated when people get the basics wrong. Recently there was this blogger named Kris star who did a really dumb video at spahn. Stoner did end up calling that one out.

  8. I'm thinking that one account said the night club was shut down when the parents of under aged teens, who visited it, reported the club to the police. Does anyone else remember that?

  9. Thought everyone would be interested.

Jillian Barberie, who used to be a radio host at KABC here in Los Angeles where I live, has a podcast. Here is Ms Barbarie with Sharon Tate's sister, Debra Tate, on the podcast from just a few days ago

    It's episode 7.

Debra Tate talks about that she believes that there are bodies buried (SPAHN RANCH?)
    in the desert (Barker Ranch).

She also says that she wrote Charles Manson when Manson was in prison, and Manson wrote her back.
Listen to that part, it's something else.

Ms Tate talks about her father and a WHOLE-LOT-MORE pertaining to The Manson Family.

    It's a long listen.

Equally ironic is that "Sharon [King]" is an alias that Susan Atkins used in 1967 in a North Beach nightclub that she went on to use when she danced for Anton LaVey. In her actual autobiography {such as it was} he only ever refers to her as Sharon ! In fact, everyone around her at the time, even the guy she was living with referred to her as 'Sharon'.

  11. Was it fate, playing a game, or was it the pied piper?
C'mon babe, follow me, I'm the pied piper and I'll see you next year and "you will see what I mean."
Don't you see, there's so much green and fresh air in the Susana's and with the girl Susan-aah.
    And,
some will believe and see, even the ones from the brother Charlie romping family
    what I'm gonna say:
before the summer of '69, to paraphrase some lyrics(Livin' Thing-Jeff Lynne-ELO),
-it was a livin' thing what a terrible thing to lose-
    Then,
there was a film of the fire at Spahn Town and as I gazed at that horrible sight
    I then thought,
brother Charlie, your supporters and you who rode on August 9 and 10 wouldn't say it in words, but you knew; yes, you knew, that...you took those great lucky breaks (free livin' at Spahn Valley) and broke them in two and in three
there in August and on, the illusion that you'll be okay and everything will just go away, there was no Topanga or August 9 and 10 what terrible choices that will and did come back to you
because some of the fun club Spahn gang looked up and saw that there was someone always waiting around and when the prison door closed, he said,
'I'm the pied piper" and I came for you.
Now you're paying me. You were so free, you did it, can't you see?
It was a livin' thing, what a terrible thing to loose.
Pay me, "I'm the pied piper."
How can it be right, when it was so wrong? How, how can we take you back to 11 pm on August 8? C'mon babes what does it mean when you said, "right on."
You were singing songs even after the moon went down in September of '69?

  12. ...Also and alas, as George Harrison said, all things must pass.
Here, as I write as you all do, there are references of my personal experiences in my life. Kindly, if you don't wanna read what I write, simply refrain from reading what's under my name.
Well, September saw them going to dusty ground in Myers Barker and further as the files on Temple and Broadway were being filtered and fingered till October 10 and 12 came around.
There was one evening and it got dark and looking across from the parking lot and road, there once stood Spahn's horses with sunshine and girls walking barefoot and you could hear their giggles but now I saw the fog and rain misting and never lifting. The hills and trees whispered to me, they said-
who are you-why are you here-what are you thinking.
I said, talking to the air, there were many girls in my 60's and 70's life, I don't know why, I'm still haunted by Sadie. The counselors and therapists (professors of, at C.U.) said to me: something is wrong with your mind. I said, I got screwed up in my head.
When you think about it, weirdos like me with what I did in the 60's, our
haunting's can melt our mind again and again.
The fog covered the road as I stood staring and the floating round mist said, this is the blanket over this now sleeping forever Spahn, now go home.

  13. ...Also and alas, as George Harrison said, all things must pass.

George Harrison was in fact quoting Lao Tse (老子), whose poem 'All Things Pass' had recently been translated by Timothy Leary. Lao Tse wrote the Tao Te Ching and was the founder of what today we call Taoism. Back in the day (1969) his poem 'All Things Pass' was commonly found on student walls alongside posters of Che Guevara and Rolling Stone's Lacy, smoking her timeless joint. Me, I prefer the philosophy of Antonio Machado's 'Cantares': Todo pasa y todo queda' ... 'it all changes, but it's all pretty much the same' (my translation).

When you think about it, weirdos like me with what I did in the 60's, our haunting's can melt our mind again and again.

It seems important that we should know you consider yourself a 'weirdo' and be impressed by your exploits in the 1960s. Not that you are the only one on this board to have been in LA in 1969. However, and with respect, it does looks like the 'mind melting' was successful.

  14. Question: The sign on the road outside the ranch with Charlie's signature..what's up with that? Who put it there? When and why?

  15. I’ll stick with Stoner’s tours. They’re far more comprehensive and interesting. He also doesn’t steer you straight into the poison oak.
