The official version of events says that the Cielo murders took place from around 12:20am to about 12:50am.
Here are the witnesses that support that timeline:
--At 1am Rudy Weber claims he saw Tex and the girls using the hose outside his house to wash up. He even got the license plate # from the Ford they were driving. "Mr. Weber stated he was guessing at the time"
--Neighbor Mrs Kott
she heard, “in close sequence", what sounded like three or four gunshots. They seemed to have come from the direction of the gate of 10050 and she later guessed it to be between 12:30-1AM.
HS, pg24 "She did not check the time but later guessed it be be between 12:30 and 1am."
--William Garretson's testimony that Parent left the guest house shortly after 12:15am.
--Both Susan & Linda stated that Charlie asked them what they were doing home so early
--HS, pg117
"Virginia also learned(from Atkins) that the Tate murders had taken place between midnight and one in the morning..."
--Seymour Kott, NBC interview: heard nothing after midnight
-----------------------------------
But there are numerous witnesses that saw or heard somethiing after 1am
--Tim Ireland says his supervisor gave the time he came to him as 12.40 as he had looked at his watch ~ Ireland originally told the police it was 1.30am
The police report notes: "Between 0100 and 0130 Mr. Ireland was awake, alert and watching the sleeping children. He heard a male voice from what seemed to him a long distance away to the north or northeast shout, 'Oh, God, no. Stop. Stop. Oh, God, no, don't'.

http://www.cielodrive.com/archive/tate-neighbor-heard-shots-screams-in-murder-house-about-2-in-morning/
He heard shots and screams at "2 or 2:30am – no earlier,"
" I heard a loud shot, a woman’s scream, then another shot."
--Emmett Steele (9951 Beverly Grove Dr.) who was awakened by the barking of one of his hunting dogs. He estimated the time to be between 2 and 3am.
--14-year-old Carlos Gill, who had a clear eye-view to the house and sound would travel right to his window who said it was 4:00 AM.
"At approximately 0400 hours he heard the sound of voices arguing. He believed it was three or four persons. The argument increased in volume and became more heated. It lasted approximately one minute and then subsided abruptly." "Carlos, with an open window did not hear any gunshots between 1-1:30AM."
--Robert Bullington and Eric Karlson, two security patrol trained to mark the time who both said at 4:11am they heard three gunshots
--Unk 911 caller who reported "woman screaming" call from the same area, about 4am. "I hope we don't have a murder. We just had a woman-screaming call in that area."

--Richard Correll (director):
Sees Tex, another man, and two females driving near the crime scene at 3:30am.
--William Garretson also gave an account that supports the claim of gunshots after 1am:
From the trial transcripts:
MR. FITZGERALD: ... I am in possession of what purports to be a transcript of an interview with Mr. Garretson at 4:25 pm, on August 10th, 1969, where this witness was asked about the events that took place on August 8th and 9th. He stated in connection with questions about dogs barking that: “It was about 2 or 3 hours after he left,” referring to Steven Parent, “somewhere around there, that is when I looked out in the yard....” ... The importance of the dogs barking is that they may signal or herald the arrival on the scene of the persons who perpetrated the events.
But if there was a return visit, why not just admit that? I suspect it was because it would have raised too many questions for the Bel Air Patrol, on how they could have missed the killers coming and going, twice.

Or maybe it never happened. What would be the purpose of a "return trip"? And how would all involved remember and stick to details that were told to them, and they would have to be told to them, especially to Susan Atkins to have her description of Sebring and Tate's body where they were opposed to the initial encounter? Are we to believe that Manson and his conspirators took a chance and drove back to Spahn Ranch with blood on them, bloody clothes and getting blood back inside the car? Where did they clean up? Why was there no other clothes found?
ReplyDeleteAlso, it is Los Angeles, especially in the canyons...sounds echo. So all sounds heard after the initial trip must be from a trip back to the house to "stage the scene" ? Why would the scene need to be staged?
All I can think of is that if they did go back, it was due to speed-induced paranoia.
DeleteI don't think I can logically see that happening either. All it would take is one slip up and they could be tied to the murders...before Susan "snitched"
DeleteI had read somewhere that Charlie went to the house with Brenda

ReplyDeleteThe following will likely make me even more unpopular here than I already am, but looking for approval and "likes" was never my aim when deciding to voice my opinion. In a lot of ways, I share Leroy's view. I wouldn't call y'all "idiots", but I do think this subject has indeed been researched to death and we really are highly unlikely to get any more major "breakthroughs" or relevant updates to it. I truly believe we need to let the TLB victims have their peace; stop trying to uncover new salacious details about their private lives. There is nothing more to be gained by rehashing this topic (except $$ of course, which regrettably continues).
ReplyDeleteOn this particular topic, I agree. Logically it doesn't make any sense. It's LA on a Friday night. The timeline of the noises heard don't even add up.
DeleteAs a quick addendum to the above^, let me say there have indeed been many worthy posts on this site (as well as lots of garbage by the usual suspect/s). In case anybody was thinking otherwise, yes there has been some very excellent research done here.
ReplyDeleteFurther addendum to my addendum..lol. The vast majority of the worthy posts here were made SEVERAL YEARS AGO. Of late, and yes I've said this previously, there has been precious little of real value uploaded here.
ReplyDeleteShow us how its done, dude.
ReplyDeleteNaah, I have better things to do with my time. Maybe one of these days, though I wouldn't bet on it, you will actually figure out how to write something here that ISN'T Manson fanboy-tier rehashed nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThere isn't really very much left to keep this forum going, is there?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's time to switch over to the Epstein files?
;^)
As far as I know, Matt and the other moderators put up the post they select as appropriate. Those who don't like what they select are free to submit their own material, skip over what they don't like or seek a group that agrees with every thought they have.
ReplyDeleteMatt,
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And as far as I know, Orwhut, readers of this site are ALSO free to write and submit criticism of others' posts.
ReplyDeleteI am convinced there is plenty of material to be found that will make significant contributions to this case and the totality of the immense story surrounding it. I say this because documents, photos, and other materials do continue to materialize within this discourse. I have had the good fortune of finding some of these, and I am happy to post them here.
ReplyDeleteAs I see it, greater effort is going to have to be made in visiting research institutions for documents, requesting interviews with living witnesses to the case (or their family members), and making FOIA requests for unpublished materials.
For what it is worth, I am presently doing all of the above, with research now in progress in two major library collections. I had a fairly recent interview with Dennis Hearst (who delivered Abigail's bicycle on the evening of the murders), and I plan to prepare a FOIA request with LA County.
All of this takes time, and in some cases, a significant amount of money. I believe the effort and expense is worth it, and I believe most of you do as well.
Sixties, do you enjoy spitting venom at Star? I can't remember one time when he's been rude to you.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is I agree with you more than I do him but at least Star gives us a different point of view at times when not much interesting is happening concerning the murders.
Orwhut, my issue is with the fact that for the past 50 years we've known pretty much all the relevant facts about this case, both the primary ones and also innumerable lesser-known ones, and yet some writers and "researchers" (mostly because they desire fame of one sort or another) keep wanting to make the public believe that the "real story" behind these murders has been suppressed. These people think they know "what really happened". This is what frustrates and, I admit it, often angers me to the point where my objections sometimes, regrettably, turn personal. Your point is well taken. From now on I will try to dial back the vehemence of my disagreement with others' posts.
ReplyDeleteSixties,
DeleteThat was far different from the reply I was expecting. Thank you, you have my respect.
Yes, we need fresh posts regardless of repetition. After all, some of the best information shows up in the comments. Thanks to everyone for sharing as much as you do
DeleteWho all went back?
ReplyDeleteRichard Correll, director
(a little after 3:30am, near Cielo Dr.)"...I heard and then saw a car driven by a man with long hair, what looked like another man in the passenger seat, and a couple of young women in the back.... Tex Watson ... There was no question he was the guy I saw driving the car.”
And Manson himself admitted going back "to see what his children had done" in the Emmons book,
Death to Pigs, by Robert Hendrickson, c.2011 pg501
Joan(Huntington): There's a story circulating that he went, he(Manson) and possibly Bruce or Clem went back to the murders and rearranged the scene.
[This was in Dec of '71--so this part of the story started very early.]

INMATE WATSON:.... at one time I even thought that Manson and TJ went back over to the house and did this... ... I actually thought that Manson and TJ (Wallerman) had done that when they went back to the scene of the crime that night.

John Michael Jones said (in text) that Manson TOLD him that the back-to-the-house “cleanup crew” consisted of Charlie, Linda, Tex, Patty and one other person CM wouldn’t mention.
Nancy Pitman is also frequently named as someone who could have gone back with Charlie.
