Rosina Kroner

Earlier this summer I was watching the news and there was a big story about the rain that hit the San Francisco Bay Area.  We very rarely get rain in the summer.  Anyway, who should they happen to interview for the story?

Rosina Kroner!!!

Yes, Tex Watson's girlfriend who was loosely connected to the shooting of  Lotsapapa  by Charles Manson.  She is being interviewed at her stand in the town of Bodega where she sells goods on the weekend.  The TV station misspelled her last name but if you Google the correct spelling you will find a listing for her and her shop in Bodega.

Deb,
Is this the same Rosina?

She looks older than she should be. You know i once looked for her on the web and found that listing, about thrift shops in Bodega Bay. But there was no pictures and i wonder if this is indeed the lady.

AustinAnn74 said...

It's definitely the hair that makes her look older. If she had a good cut & color, it would take 20 years off. Also, I see she is still in retail sales.....Good for her!
I cannot believe you found this video, Deb. What hunting skills you have!!

It is the same Rosina. I did some background checking on her before posting this. Her name is unique with only one other in the US who has that name. That Rosina would be 99 years old if she were still living. This Rosina is 71 years old.

Wow great find Deb!

DebS said...

Austin Ann, there were no skills involved! I was just watching the news and almost fell out of my recliner when I saw Rosina. Since it was one of the top stories of the night there was a video online. Normally the station does not put up videos of their weather stories.

@ChrisPOA, this is splitting hairs but Rosina's shop is in the itty bitty town of Bodega, which is where the film The Birds was filmed. It is inland.

Bodega Bay is right on the coast and though still a small town it's much larger than Bodega.

A young girl is KIDKNAPED by Black drug dealers - Nobody calls the cops ?

A White guy comes and SAVES her and shoots the the lead "kidknaper" - Nobody calls the cops ?

Awhile later, a Prosecutor asks the lead "kidknaper" to testify against the really BAD guy who SAVED the young girl.

What's WRONG with this picture ?

CrisPOA said...

@DebS - you're right the listing says only "Bodega".

@AustinAnn74 - the hair and the teeth i would say...

But i still think she looks older than her contemporaries we know.
She doesn't seem to have been pretty in the past, and i thought she was supposed to, for Tex said in his book she was "good looking, hip (but not hippie) as other women living in Hollywood at that time"
Anyways, that was a huge find!!

I'm a couple of decades younger than Rosina. At class reunions each year I'm stunned by how many of the girls who were pretty in high school now look well past their age and well, aren't very attractive. Heck, look at Barbara Hoyt.

CrisPOA said...

Yes Matt, you're right. Hoyt is almost unrecognizable. People age in different forms - it's about DNA, lifestyle, money, etc, etc.

Panamint Patty said...

Patty saw a photo of Matt's mother in law today, she's in her 80s but doesn't look a day over 55. How does she do it?! If she is anything like Matt she probably lives on chicken breast, quinoa and wheat grass. Wowza.

Panamint Patty said...

Deb, let's go buy some stuff from her next weekend, hey?

Matt said...

My mother-in-law is more active than I am, and does it in heels.

Deb is clearly the valedictorian of the Manson bloggers. Somebody has to go talk to Rosina. A Deb/Patty tag team would be ideal. Or if you could get the Saint to join them.

Dj246255 said...

This lady would have been 26 in 1969.

AustinAnn74 said...

Deb, I still say you have excellent hunting skills, even if you just happened to have come across her while watching the news. Haha....

Matt said...

Deb the Chief Assassin finds nothing by accident. She is humble to a fault. Trust me, she has sat quietly on Rosina for 2 years. Kudos, Deb!

Panamint Patty said...

She sat on Rosina? LOL

chatsworth charlie said...

What is she 6'8"??????

beauders said...

Patty if you're serious about meeting her, why not be direct and ask her if she is the same Rosina Kroner written about by Ed Sanders in The Family. My vote is that she is the Rosina we are curious about.

Doc Sierra said...

She looks to be about the right age. I'm confident it's her.....

Max Frost said...

It's her. Big deal. She was only thrown to the wolves by Tex, then tied up and held prisoner by Lotsapoppa, whom she witnessed being shot by Manson.

She probably forgot all about it the next day.

No news there - just another garden variety bad day for her is all...

Mr. Humphrat said...

I"m guessing she testified for Bugliosi? But I'm guessing she's never been interviewed through the years. Can anyone give me a guess as to how many Manson family associates have changed their names? I saw a record of "ouish's" marriage in '68 to the bus driver-a very unusual last name. Did they stay married?

Matt said...

Hump, Ouisch left CA by the mid-70's. She wound up getting re-married and raised a family so I'm sure that that marriage was dissolved somehow.

orwhut said...

I'm for Deb and Patty going shopping at Rosina's, making friends with her, and getting an interview. Pretty please...

Nice find, Deb. You were obviously reading the graphics during this otherwise uninspiring news story. That's what separates investigators from couch potatoes.

This reminds me of an article I once read where Neal Cassady's daughter bumps into a grown child of another Merry Prankster in the supermarket. They were wondering if anyone would give a hoot if they knew who they were. LOL.

DG Lane said...

Chatsworth Charlie I see what you mean. Either that guy was really short or Rosina was standing on something that is obscured by the table. If she were that big it would have been Crowe that would have been in trouble.

leary7 said...

I think people 'give a hoot' when they are interested in the subject matter. Wow, that's an obvious thought, eh? But I have been a Kerouac/Ken Kesey junkie for years so yeah that article would interest me.
Just as obviously it is doubtful anyone would be interested in Rosina outside of the hard core TLB bloggers. But yeah, SHE IS A BIG DEAL because she was a very interesting side character to one of the top three crime stories of the 20th century in America. Obviously she wasn't central to Charlie's story per se, but to dismiss her as insignificant is non-creative at best and arrogant at worse. Who the hell 'forgets the next day' being kidnapped, tied up and witnessing someone being shot. You have to be seriously skewered and jaded to promote that storyline.
A Patty and Deb led interview would be the balls.

Matt said...

Leary, I'm pretty sure that Max was just being sarcastic.

leary7 said...

Man, I never ever get that, Matt. I seriously apologize if that is the case. Maybe I am just like Sheldon on The Big Bang theory in that I don't get allot of sarcasm. Minnesota humor just is nowhere near California humor.

Panamint Patty said...

Its difficult sometimes getting the gist of written posts without the body language and facial expressions that go along with the words, Leary...has started many a blog feud Patty suspects

leary7 said...

I don't know about "many", Patty, but I do confess to a few - the Saint, Frank and the frost guy for sure.
I mostly find myself objecting to 'absolute' statements where someone poses an opinion as if it is the biblical truth and anyone who disagrees is a closed-minded moron. It's why the Col and I could never be buddies.
In this case I most respectfully disagree with Matt. I just don't see the sarcasm in the post. It reads like a serious opinion from my view. But I certainly accept the possibility that I just don't get it. I'm not looking to start a feud - been down that road before and it bores me now. But I will still object to what I see as illogical assertions. It's just the Spock in me.

Max Frost said...

It's called comic relief, Leary.

It was so obviously a joke that I didn't feel the need to add "LOL" at the end to telegraph the fact that I was only kidding.

That ass of yours needs a lot more softening, brother. You should try yoga.

Panamint Patty said...

Patty did not mean you in particular Leary...see? He we go! You're the balls. Its all good.

Hey Matt, most of those women at your reunions will have had babies! And been kept up many many nights looking after them...women often look older than men because they simply do more work and they worry more. When you make things equal, you'll see its women who age better.

And from what I have read and seen also in UK, its the changes in the food itself are putting weight on the women. Somehow on men it doesnt make them look so soft. All those hormones and antibiotics in the meat...stuff totally banned in Europe. I always try and buy my food from Europe and try never buy American or Chinese.

I don't recall did Rosina live at Spahn? Was she the girlfriend Tex lived with by the ocean during a break from Manson?

leary7 said...

Damn, I really need to go back and take remedial reading. My apologies to Max and Patty. I honestly didn't take it as humor Max, I thought it was a straightforward assertion. My bad. And I did think you were slammin me Patty. Two bads.
All good ahead.

Matt said...

Nah, Patty doesn't slam anyone. She's too nice.

leary I thought we were BEEEEST friends

Matt said...

Hump, Rosina was not a family member and as fas as I know never visited Spahn. She was a GF of Watson's in LA.

Max Frost said...

No problem Leary.

leary7 said...

BEEAAST friends, maybe, Col.
But you do remain my favorite advisory.

You put this old woman's face and her at her place of business with a newscaster repeating where the video is being shot and equate her with The Manson Family? WTF is wrong with you people? Sure she gave a short interview on the news about the weather but the news station didn't say, "Here we are with mass murderer Tex Watsons, ex girlfriend to see what she thinks of this weather." What if this isn't even her?! Some kook decides to go approach her in person or something? Either way its just plain wrong. You can't manage to be more responsible then this? Wow.
