Harold Ramis' Manson Movie that Never Was

Laser Orgy Girls (unproduced, in development late ’70s)
Writer
After Matty Simmons and Ivan Reitman passed on Freshman Year, Harold Ramis began writing a script called Laser Orgy Girls with Lampoon writer, editor, and co-founder Doug Kenney. The script, which followed a teenaged Charles Manson's adventures as a suburban high school student who meets some extraterrestrials in the desert, was well-liked by Matty Simmons, Ivan Reitman, and John Landis, the eventual director of Animal House; but it was a little too bold and brash to be unleashed on the American public at that time. Here's Ramis on Laser Orgy Girls:

“Our story concerned Charles Manson in high school, a strangely seductive, demented loner living in the white bread world of a typical Midwestern suburb, corrupting the local youth and forming a depraved cult of flying saucer worshipping teenage zombies. We called it Laser Orgy Girls. The marketing slogan for the popular American Graffiti had been ‘Where were you in ’62?’ Ours was ‘Where was he in ’63?’ To Matty and Ivan’s credit, they actually liked it, but after a moment’s reflection suggested we go back to the idea of doing a college movie.”
As mentioned earlier, John Landis was a particularly big fan of the script, speaking its praises recently in a 2010 interview:

“Their first script was about Charles Manson in high school and, actually, it was really fucking good. There was a great opening gag in which you start out outside San Quentin. The camera goes in through the window, through the walls, through the chicken wire, down into the deepest bowels of the prison. There's Manson in a straitjacket, padded cell, swastika carved in his forehead, and he looks up and says, 'Is it hot in here, or am I crazy?'”

After Harold Ramis and the National Lampoon folks realized there was no way they were going to get the Manson movie made, Ramis and Doug Kenney teamed up with Lampoon writer Chris Miller. The trio combined their sensibilities to write Animal House, which would become the highest-grossing comedy ever at the time of its release.

Read Something: Christopher Jones

Patty streamed "Wild in the Streets" with Christopher Jones, Shelly Winters and Richard Pryor last night which got her to Googling. You may recall that Chris was a close friend of Sharon Tate's and is even rumored to have had an affair with her while she was pregnant. Devastated by her death, he dropped out of the limelight in the early 70's to become a painter. The biography available at http://www.cinetropic.com/jones/bio.html gives a lot more detail about the impact of the crimes on his life including the following statement:

"He'd moved into his manager's guest house on the property where the Tate killings had occurred in Benedict Canyon. Chris, still very upset over Sharon's death, watched unbelieving as the owner's guests were shown blood stained carpets and repeated grizzly stories over and over."

Now, that's messed up.

If you have never seen "Wild in the Streets," maybe you should. It's excellent background research for what the mood was in our country during the time The Family was active, when 52% of the US population was under age 25. There are some excellent shots of the Haight and the Strip if you watch closely. Be warned though, the lyrics to "14 or Fight" are bound to get stuck in your head for many days afterwards.

Or if you don't like to read here is the short version-
AIRTREESWATER, and ANIMALS is a 4-part, seasonal album series by CHARLES MANSON on Magic Bullet Records that brings together these two passions. Each individual album features previously-unheard, authorized, and exclusive songs with a sharp focus on the non-sustainable environmental conditions mankind has wrought for itself. The recordings span numerous sessions and are presented in their raw, natural, and unadulterated form. Each installment also features striking artwork and careful presentation centered around the tenets and philosophies of ATWA (including exclusive paintings rendered by MANSON himself).  When all of the sensationalism, fear, projection, and knee-jerk response is stripped away, all that remains is a man named Charlie, strumming and picking away on his guitar and sending his passions into the ether.
Schedule of release:

• AIR CD/LP/Cass/Digital : Summer 2010 (August 10, 2010)
• TREES CD/LP/Cass/Digital : TBA

The Social Swim by Yvonne: A Big Evening for Gibby Folger

San Francisco Examiner, December 22, 1961

Exotic Abigal (Gibby) Folger was presented to San Francisco and Peninsula society last night at a magnificent Italianate ball given by her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Folger, at the Hotel St. Francis.

Seemingly dozens of dinners were given first, but by far the largest was the one hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Kelham in the hotel's Borgia Room.

It was for all this year's debs, their escorts and a few of the Kelhams' friends. Guests included the Folgers, the James Floods, Mr. and Mrs. James Barnett of Bel Air, Mrs. Selby McCreery, Peter McBean, Whitney Warren and Mrs. Ines Mejia Folger, who is Gibby's mother.

Mrs. Kelham was a hostess in abstentia, because she has been hospitalized and is now convalescing.

The dinner tables were covered with American Beauty satin cloths, and centerpieces included gold baskets filled with white camellias and garlanded gold candelabra.

Mr. and Mrs. Folger and Gibby received in the foyer beside the Colonial Room. The tall debutante's dress was a bright yellow Dior, which she purchased in Paris last summer. It was designed with an Empire bodice, three-quarter-length sleeves and a long skirt. Mrs. Folger's gown had a square-necked green sequin bodice and a white satin skirt.

Bruce Kelham was decor adviser and began with a pink and green color scheme. The receiving line was stationed in front of a trellis entwined with foliage and pink camellias. Beside it was a filigree screen with Gibby's orchid gifts.

Ernie Heckscher's Orchestra played for dancing at the opposite end of the room, the musicians flanked by 14-foot pink and green striped banners drawn up above the center of the ensemble.

The little balcony boxes around the room were shaded with pink and green striped awnings.

Supper was served after midnight in the adjoining Italian Room, where the small tables were covered in dusty pink satin and the buffet in green satin.

The entrance to the room was marked with striped maypole banners. Behind the buffet were jewel-studded gilded instruments joined together with pink camellias and puffs of pink satin.

Among the dinner parties given before the ball were those hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sutro, Scott Martin, Dr. and Mrs. Cabot Brown, the Marshal Fishers, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Soto-Hall and Mr. and Mrs. George Kimball. The Kimballs' party honored Nancy Miller, the Harry East Millers' daughter, who made her debut last year.

Other dinners were given by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dohrmann, the Charles Mayers and the Charles Munns.

Kasabians/Christians Continued~ Crack A Lackin

How do you enjoy your cocaine??

Hard?

or soft?

On October 24, 1996, members of the Tacoma, Washington Police Department served a search warrant on the apartment owned by Kasabian's daughter Tanya [sic], known to authorities as "Lady Dangerous." Kasabian, as well as Tonya's two young children, were present when the police arrived. Their report stated: "In the master bedroom (defendant's bedroom) officers located a small baggie containing suspected rock cocaine and a large bundle of cash in a dresser drawer. On top of the dresser was a bunch of baggies. Also in the room officers located a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, electronic scales, a plate with cocaine residue, and another bundle of cash . . . Tanya [sic], found guilty of possession of controlled substances, was sentenced to a year in state prison.
Christian charges that this statement mistakenly confuses her with her sister, Quanu and is defamatory because she has never been convicted of possession of a controlled substance.

Nug Magazine? Really?

San Diego, CA, June 08, 2011 –(PR.com)– The feature story for the June 2011 NUG Magazine is entitled "Charles Manson and ATWA." In an exclusive interview, freelance writers Kelly & Crystal Hutchinson were able to obtain some insight from Charles Manson, along with friends Gray Wolf and Star, on his music, ATWA, and the Savior Project.

In January of 2011, Charles Manson published a 12-page ATWA booklet that includes his life experiences in his own words, the role of ATWA, and the Savior Project.

The booklet describes:
"The Savior or Savior Project is an idea of Charles Manson’s for a seed gun: a gun that anyone/everyone can use to quickly and effectively plant seeds over a vast area. Currently, the project is developing functional loads and proper seed/compost mixtures to be used universally in common paintball guns. Mr. Manson has expanded the invention to include M-80 block guns converted to seed loads, seed-mortars, seed-bombs dropped by helicopter, seed artillery, etc."

The interview was compiled by questions answered via email, postal mail, and by phone conversation between Charles Manson and Gray Wolf.

About: NUG Magazine is San Diego’s Original Cannabis & Culture Publication. The print version is distributed monthly free of charge all over San Diego County, as well as through a paid subscription service to readers all over the world. The increasingly popular digital version can be found online at www.nugmag.com.

"Manson Rising" ~ movie #6

From charliemanson.com-
There is one more Manson film in the works
titled "Manson Rising".
If you click on the link below it has some really
good "rumored" info about the movie.

The film will have the usual cast of characters
but also included for this one are-
Bernard Crowe and Alvin "Creepy" Karpis.
It also mentions that director Andrew Jones
spoke with Bobby B while doing his research.
I wonder which story Bobby told this time.

2009 Paul Krassner article: "My Acid Trip with Squeaky"

Interesting article, with great insights. Krassner claims of Sandy Good: "She told me that prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi once snarled at her as she kept her vigil outside the courthouse: "We're gonna get you because you sucked Charlie Manson's dick."

read something

Good article about Wavy Gravy t/n Hugh Romney
founder of The Hog Farm commune.
It tells of Charlie showing up in the black bus at the commune looking for Shirley Lake, Dianne's mother.
Charlie as usual came with a pack of girls and
some bad vibes. The Hog Farmers managed to run
Charlie & Co. off by performing some kind of an
"OM Circle".  On the way out they scooped up
Dianne Lake.

I am glad to see he invested in a whole set of teeth,
even if they are rainbow

"Squeaky" Fromme sentenced to life

A federal jury in Sacramento, California, sentences Lynette Alice Fromme, also known as "Squeaky" Fromme, to life in prison for her attempted assassination of President Gerald R. Ford.
On September 5, a Secret Service agent wrested a semi-automatic .45-caliber pistol from Fromme, who brandished the weapon during a public appearance of President Ford in Sacramento. "Squeaky" Fromme, a follower of incarcerated cult leader Charles Manson, was pointing the loaded gun at the president when the Secret Service agent grabbed it.
Seventeen days later, Ford escaped injury in another assassination attempt when 45-year-old Sara Jane Moore fired a revolver at him. Moore, a leftist radical who once served as an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, had a history of mental illness. She was arrested at the scene, convicted, and sentenced to life.
In trial, Fromme pleaded not guilty to the "attempted assassination of a president" charge, arguing that although her gun contained bullets, it had not been cocked, and therefore she had not actually intended to shoot the president. She was convicted, sentenced to life in prison, and sent to the Alderson Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia.
Fromme remained a dedicated disciple of Charles Manson and in December 1987 escaped from Alderson Prison after she heard that Manson, also imprisoned, had cancer. After 40 hours roaming the rugged West Virginia hills, she was caught on Christmas Day, about two miles from the prison. Five years were added to her life sentence for the escape.

Reasons why Arnold thinks Bruce should stay in the clink.

From The Huffington Post-Arnold responds to why Bruce can't go home just yet.

Schwarzenegger acknowledged that Davis had made "some credible gains" during his incarceration. But in turning down the parole recommendation, he cited the "especially heinous" nature of the slayings and Davis' repeated efforts to minimize his involvement.
The Republican governor also questioned whether Davis is still too willing to follow others' direction, noting his association with the American Nazi Party after he went to prison in 1972. He also found troubling Davis' statements that he would be subservient to his wife should he be released.
"Davis still exhibits conformist tendencies," Schwarzenegger said in a decision he signed on June 22. The decision was sent to Davis and the parole board on Friday.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, the Republican nominee for attorney general, had urged Schwarzenegger to reject the parole board's recommendation.
