Crow Bar Saloon

One of our members "Ole J.C." sent me some pics to share.
I am assuming he may be on a Manson voyage.  Thanks for the pics Ole J.C.

Tecopa Hot Springs Road sign. Ole J.C. was nice enough to add the insert of Little Paul with his daughters under the same sign many years ago.

Also from Ole J.C-
Chapter 4 in Desert Shadows:
Later some of the group from Goler Wash were back in town to entertain local youth.
Ward was upset because they had previously dispensed marijuana to some of the town's young people and had been warned about panhandling at the Crow Bar Saloon and shop lifting in the General Store.

The Crowbar has good food. It is expensive though, just like Panamint Springs.

Not as good as the steak at Sheri's is it?

I stayed at the whimsical Shoshone Inn, next to the Chevron station, under that big ass tree and felt like a big shot renting almost ten percent of the motel rooms (code for one) in the whole city. It had everything a man needs to sustain life indefinitely, all within stumbling distance.

Gas/Liquor store with chow and more liquor across the street, the very definition of an oasis, or dare I say paradise?

Eviliz,

I was on another journey which delivered me to Baker, CA. I managed to obliviously rent a room at an inn named the ‘Bun Boy Motel’. It was adjacent to the World’s Tallest Thermometer, which only added to the overall charm and undertones of an establishment with that sort of moniker. It was time to choose some booze, so I went across the street to have a few beers to relax and forget.

Naturally the only restaurant besides the Bun Boy was - The Mad Greek and the view from my table was straight out of the Twilight Zone’s book of ironic views.

Time for a shot

I was trying to recall what other seminal role Shoshone played during the cavalcade of trials and managed to find the answer. I believe it was at the diminutive Sheriff’s office, conveniently adjacent to the Crowbar, where the not so famous ‘Steuber Tapes’ were produced which corroborated Juan Flynn’s previously impeached testimony, featuring Manson bragging about doing the murders.

Why Manson objected to testimony that he ordered Barbara Hoyt to perform fellatio on Juan Flynn, and how Hoyt found the act unpleasant, but did it out of fear of Charlie is beyond me. Imagine having that as a public and permanent record.

Evidence and Other Crimes

I could just see Juan boasting at the bar - “Yeah, back in the day, the ladies couldn’t keep their hands off me.”

Then his buddy says – “That’s not what the sworn testimony in the California Supreme Court says, and who is this Barbara Hoyt anyway?”

So Charlie discovers that hell doth have a fury worse than a woman scorned, when a man is de-fellated in public. There you have it, just a little more historical texture, to enhance your next visit to Shoshone, by the tree.

I stayed at the Shoshone Inn as well. Cost $20 more a night than my previous night in Vegas. Gas was about $1.50 more expensive at $5.40 a gallon. Crowbar does have some good food... had an amazing veggie burrito.
