Murderpedia

While doing some research I found this site which is the Wikipedia of murderers.
Curiously missing are Bruce, Susan and Tex.  But Linda is listed.
Who did Linda murder?  Did I miss something??
The site has so much potential.  I wish I had thought of it.

Sometimes I mention having favorites among serial killers, just to see the expression on peoples faces.

No, some of the local murderers from my neck of the wood. Some of the cases are quite notorious and gruesome, so I'm surprised!

Kemper is on the list (Edmund Emil Kemper III). One of his first victims lived a mile down the road from me and was used by my parents as justification for not hitch-hiking. Sometime later a woman was assaulted leaving a library, but that wasn’t used as a reason to avoid school. I guess there’s nothing new about selective confirmation bias.

Like when someone dies of lung cancer the papers always report how many packs the person smoked a day. But if they die in a car crash, there isn’t mention how many miles they drove a day. Just seems a little incongruous.

There’s an associated site on Murderpedia called DeathPenaltyUSA.org which lists various executions. Reading some of those cases reminded me just how gruesome the Tate and La Bianca murders were and how often there is discussion about who will get paroled. It’s easy to forget that they were sentenced to death in the first place and parole should be little more than some fantasy.

No mention of Sadie? I really can't give that site much credit. I mean that's pretty basic knowledge, and all you can see about Charlie is his name....nope, not a site I like at all.

Farflung,
that is something I have never really understood. They got the death penalty. I get that the death penalty was abolished in CA(not that I agree with it), but why do they even come up for parole?

There should be a Mansonwiki. Maybe there is? Cielo does a good job but a site that listed EVERY shred of connecting topics related to the case would make trawling for details that much easier.

i have written a 1600+ page encyclopedia on manson, etc. but am scared to publish it, because i don't want to get sued. does anyone have any recommendations for me?

Change the names and publish as fiction?

Stacey

when there death penalties were switched to life sentences they became eligible for parole in 7 years as was the law at the time for all life sentence prisoners. They were entitled to periodic reviews by the parole board every so often after that- and indeed have been having them ever since.

though- in part thanks to Doris Tate- not as often as they used to be entitled to them.

I believe they can be denied parole up to ten years at a time now before they can go in front of the board again. I also believe they used be every year in the very beginning- at some point the denials were up to 3 or 5 years max.

I may not be exactly right- but its something like this

once they reinstated the death penalty- these guys were in effect grandfathered in to the old laws which enabled them to have eligibility for these parole hearings

Hey St C, is your web name an homage to the Grateful Dead?
Just wondering.

yes its my favorite song

Thanks St C. I always liked to see/hear Lost Sailor and Saint of Circumstance together in concert. Dang, I miss those days......

Ya know to be honest- I was not even around for those times..

graduated high school in 85. I was a typical preppie high school athlete. I only knew a few songs and had never seen the dead. I went to my first concert that summer and when we walked in to the Meadowlands and I saw the 80,000 bodies swaying back and forth all the way to the top of the stadium- that was the song they were playing...

it would be an understatement to say my life changed that day lol

but I only actually saw the dead with Jerry about a half dozen times...

that is probably laughable to many people who know much better than I do what it is all about

I went to the outside lands music festival a few years ago and saw Furthur and the Levon Helms Band play in Golden Gate Park lol

:)

does that count???

Hey, memories are most of what we all have now. My older step brother used to take me to see the Dead and the Airplane back in the late 60s. I've probably seen the Dead with Jerry about 35-50 times. Best times of my life (other than the birth of my daughters). My favorites in concert were always China/Rider, Cassidy, The Other One, Wharf Rat, and too many others to name.....

I attended too many shows to count. I estimate 300 or so. I kept a shoebox full of ticket stubs but that got lost in a move somewhere.

I have two favorite memories. The first is the Spring Tour of 1983. I only intended to see one show (Tempe). Wound up going to Vegas, Laguna Hills and San Francisco. Missed a week of classes and had to hitch from San Francisco to Tucson. I arrived back to school. Broke, hungry and smelly.

The second is 1988 in Landover, MD. Dead played Ripple for the encore to a dying kid. It was a Make-A-Wish kid and that was his wish. Imagine 10,000 tripping Deadheads in the parking lot after the show - all of them crying...

Well told Matt. My two favorites had to be when they played Estimated Prophet at Mountain Air in 1987. Bobby was really on that night. My other one that stands out was at Cal Expo late 80s or early 90s when it was drizzling and they played songs about rain. Then as they were playing Here Comes Sunshine the clouds parted and the sun broke through. That little piece of paper that I had put on my tongue a few hours earlier made the moment all that much more poignant.....
I met Bob Weir at a bar in Roseville, CA called Bunz and Company (owned by Dan Bunz of the 49ers) back in about 1988. I was drunk and tried to have a conversation with him. After a few minutes he threw his hands up and walked out. I guess Bob don't like talking to drunk fans........

That makes me think of when my buddy and I were driving back to California after a Red Rocks show. My buddy's car broke down on HWY 80 in Utah. We were stranded on the side of the road. We camped at the base of a hill. The next day I thought, we just spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills......

Nice (the cave up in the hills)!

I saw further in July in NY. It was raining a little at the beginning of the show so they opened with Dreadful Wind and Rain.

Further is ok, but a little tighter than the Dead were, and that's what I loved a bout the GD, the music ebbed and flowed like gas fumes.

The Levon Helm Band is trying to carry on. There is a benefit concert at the izod center at the Meadowlands coming up so they can try to preserve his house and barn in Woodstock where Levon held his Midnight Rambles. They've held a few rambles there since we lost Levon too.

I went to the first Furthur Festival at Cal Expo in Sacramento in the 90s. I saw Mickey Hart's Mystery Box do a rap version of Fire On The Mountain. It was really good.
As far as the Dead not being so tight all the time I like what Jerry said. To paraphrase him he said something like "our fans don't expect perfection but they appreciate a good try?".
In another interview Jerry once said "Grateful Dead fans are like people who like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice but those who do really love it". I couldn't have said it better myself.........
