Los Angeles PD now has the Tex Tapes

Los Angeles police have obtained the decades-old taped conversations between a Manson family disciple and his attorney.

Detective David Holmes says the department has had the tapes for a couple of weeks and Robbery-Homicide Division and the Los Angeles County district attorney's office are analyzing them.

I don't think we're gonna hear about any unsolved murders. Hopefully Tex shared the real motive with his lawyer. If so, once the LAPD hear this revelatory information, they will do their best to keep it classified.

Good evening, Max. Even if there are no true revelations Patty hopes that there will be some interesting new details for we the bloggers to mull over. She's also pretty sure that Cielo was not the first time for "Stabby Tex"

Of course, I understand. We're all hoping for something new.

I'm just saying...

Best case scenario is that Tex shared the real motive with his lawyer, the audio quality is good, and we finally get to learn the truth.

Just fantasizing, but ya never know...

There is nothing in California law that requires the LAPD to disclose these tapes to the public.

Exactly.

Freedom of Information Act? Or is that just Federal?

I just read somewhere recently that Susan Atkins had told someone years ago that Tex Watson even scared the shit out of HER the night of the Cielo murders, because he was so out of control that he literally levitated off the floor, and made a horrible, inhuman, animal-type scream in front of her, and the victims in the living room. She said she had heard him making those same noises before while her and him ran through Devil's Canyon, naked, I might add. I know this doesn't have anything to do with those tapes, but just thought I would add this, for its pure creepiness....

Freedom of Information Act is federal. This would fall under the California Public Records Act. You can file a request with LAPD, but they will deny it citing exemptions in the act - 6254(b); 6254(c); 6254(f); 6254(k); and 6255. We will just have to wait and hope that some day they decide to disclose them.

Not disclosing what is in the tapes is a red flag. If there is nothing of substance, then why not release them?

I wouldn't see it as a red flag since it's not common practice for the LAPD to disclose stuff like this.

Only way that the tapes will HAVE to be released is if there is information contained in it that allows CA to bring charges on someone. After disclosure and the trial it would become a matter of public record.

AustinAnn,
Any recollection where that came from? Not disputing it, just curious as to the source?
