MANSON: AN ORAL HISTORY

This is an anniversary article done forty years after everything that took place in 1969.  It is a condensed version of those times, written from 2009 interviews with the various players in the saga.  Some of the people who were interviewed are Michael McGann, Danny Galindo, Bill Gleason and James Pursell from law enforcement. Others are Bill Garretson, Vincent Bugliosi, Warren Beatty, Martin Ransohff, and Anthony Di Maria.  From the Family there's Juan Flynn, Barbara Hoyt and Catherine Share.

The problem was that the LAPD and LAPO forgot to interview lots of people, look for certain evidence and search for a motive. Bugliosi took it upon himself to do all of this and he amassed hundreds of hours of interviews. (ie The Local TV Station crew were the ones that found the bloody clothes from Aug 9 which were thrown from Benedict Canyon Rd - something which one of the girls stated in an interview but LAPD did not follow up on.)

LAPD did more investigating than you'll ever really know. What we all know about the investigation is just a small tip of a very large iceberg. Were mistakes made along the way? Sure, but that's life.

It's not LAPD's fault that the news crew found the clothes and not them. LAPD were being guided by bad information from Susan Atkins.
