‘Helter Skelter’: See First Trailer for Epix’s Manson Family Docuseries

Six-part series, premiering June 14th, promises "most definitive recounting of the Manson Family story ever put on screen"

More than 50 years after the Manson Family murders, Epix will take a deep dive into Charles Manson's infamous cult with Helter Skelter: An American Myth.

The six-part docuseries premieres June 14th, and ahead of Helter Skelter's arrival, Rolling Stone presents the series' first trailer, which mixes archival footage, Manson's own testimonials, never-before-accessed interviews with the Family and chilling recreations.

"I was definitely under Charlie's spell," one Family member admits in voiceover, while another adds, "He was a puppet master pulling everyone's strings."

"The legend of the Manson Family permeates our culture, our media and our collective fears," Epix said of the series in a statement. "Why, after 50 years, does this ragtag group of hippies and their two-night murder spree still fascinate and perplex us?  The six-episode EPIX original series Helter Skelter: An American Myth is the most definitive recounting of the Manson Family story ever put on screen, and will challenge everything viewers think they know about this bizarre chapter in American history."

I wonder if that will be free with Hulu? Tried to look it up but didn't find an answer.

I hate to be a wet blanket but, I don't expect much to be reveled in this or any series or film about the murders that someone in this group doesn't already know. Still, the series could be entertaining.

Patty, from the Epix website-

https://press.epix.com/programs/helter-skelter-an-american-myth/

"The six-part docuseries is executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Berlanti Productions and Eli Frankel for Rogue Atlas Productions. Warner Horizon Unscripted Television serves as the studio. Lesley Chilcott, producer of the Academy Award®-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, will direct as well serve as executive producer."

The Epix channel is available on Directv and Dish and most cable systems according to a little online searching. Whether or not you have the right package to view the channel is another thing!

Been dealing with an incredibly messed up/unfinished root canal so, apologies if this was posted already...looks like Manson's ashes are being offered as a "material" for Covid-19 masks...FFS!

Even the Murderpedia community is outraged about this.

Talk about "low hanging fruit!"

My comment at the original Rolling Stone article was removed. The reason was I posted essentially nothing will be in the Epix doc that they can't find out here, and I posted a link to this site.

It also looks more like a "docudrama" where there will be people portraying Manson / Tex etc.

I hate Manson docudramas. I've never seen a decent Tex or Clem or Sadie etc, though Steve Railsback did give it the ol' college try.

I'm not getting my hopes up. It would be nice if I was wrong and they did a great job, but I ain't holding my breath.

Sounds like yet another rehash of the official story. Haven't we all seen this a million times already?? Don't waste your time.

Every 10 years or so a "new" docu-series, special about this case. Probably to appeal to a new generation, to keep the public interest going so the media can keep milking this dry! Although once in a while something interesting is offered. Like Linda on Larry King. I just don't see anything new that can be introduced at this point. I cut the cable chord years ago, do unless this streams somewhere I won't get to see it.

Sorry, spell check butchered my comment before it posted. Uugh. I hate spell check as it always incorrectly changes words

"Are you crazy enough to go out and kill for me?" Lame. That's not the ethos at all.

I don’t understand all the contempt for Manson related entertainment here on a blog that’s all about Manson. Reminds me of all the complaining about “Once Upon A Time”... there are inaccuracies in all “true” entertainment. Would you all rather there be nothing? No books? No articles? No movies?

Agree

@astrocreep....We who have been studying and pondering this case for years (some of us for decades) have no use for any further books, articles, movies or tv documemtaries that rehash the same story over again while bringing NOTHING new to the table. If you're going to write a book or article or assemble a documentary on this case, make sure you include NEW information in it....material that has never before been made public.

I agree somewhat. Once upon a time had artistic merit and originality. I found it very entertaining. But another rehash of the nice hippie girl witnessing the brainwashed murders and terribly acted sleazy mansonoid reenactments make me very bored

I say why not wait and see if there will be something new or a different take on something instead of trashing it before it even comes out? Every now and then something comes out with a different take. That is what I liked about "Charlie Says" First one I have seen about after the conviction. I do wish that they would have spent more time on the meetings and the slow deprogramming than the flash backs though. But lets give it a chance.

I see that in the years since I last visited this page ColScott has lost none of his sharp edges. That is very reassuring.
