Superb. Thank you. Not a patch on Noddy Holder, mind you.

Merry Christmas, Milly. I've been sitting here thinking about Didion since I saw your comment a bit ago. I read her a lot during my 60's research, likely caused trouble for myself subconsciously writing like her here, but respect so much what she put into her craft. It was all of her.

Please explain your third sentence LOL! They don't talk like that here in hillbilly Ohio :)

I just saw that JD Crowe passed overnight. Bluegrass fans, listen to a little pickin if you get the chance.

So, Christmas is upon us and some of us choose to commemorate the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem. Amen to that. In related news (a CNN broadcast) I heard two women giving thanks to the same Jesus for 'saving' the lives of two babies from the violence of a recent tornado. The very same tornado that was presumably created and allowed to happen by the very same Jesus and his family. Where, I ask, is the sense in this? Hey ho!

Be that as it may, my very best wishes to all of you here, Christians, other religionists, pagans, agnostics and atheists. Enjoy the festive period coming up if you live somewhere where they have one. Have a festive alcoholic beverage, if your religion allows it. And be nice to your fellow man, woman, or any other nomenclature and gender definition you attribute to living humans.

Nope, Noddy was urban Birmingham, UK. A while back. Famous for his clothing (perhaps) and a Christmas song back in the mists of time, repeated ad nauseam every Christmas. In the UK. Probably didn't make it to hillbilly Ohio but has made YouTube.

Theology is complicated isn't it, Proteus. Lol. I figured a heretic Jew singing about Uriah the Hittite might set a more even mood around here. Coffee with eggnog for me but I raise my mug to you and Milly across the pond regardless!

I suppose the Henry Tudor and Rome thing could be another reason Idk.

She's saying that the song isn't as good as Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody".
"Not a patch on" basically means "it doesn't compare" or "it's nowhere near as good as."
One of the writers was a guy called Noddy Holder, the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist. He was possibly the most distinctive voiced singer in England during the 70s. Most other singers, no matter how unique, could be mistaken for someone else in at least one syllable. Not Noddy Holder. His real name was Neville, but some kid at school started calling him Noddy when he was 7 and the name stuck forever. Anyway, he was usually identified as Slade because of that voice.

Noddy was urban Birmingham

He was actually from Walsall, north of Birmingham. It's actually nearer Wolverhampton. The people of Birmingham sometimes look at Walsall as a little outpost and the people of Walsall aren't often thrilled to be called Brummies, because they're not. Their accent, although sounding identical to the Brummie one to people outside the area, is not a Brummie one.
It's one of those towns where all the cinemas closed down once people bought TVs !!

and a Christmas song back in the mists of time, repeated ad nauseam every Christmas. In the UK

I remember the first time I heard that, back in '73. I was 10. Loved it straight away. I listen to it all the year round ! A great little song. I don't do the Christmas thing, so it's just a song to me. A great one though.

The very same tornado that was presumably created and allowed to happen by the very same Jesus and his family. Where, I ask, is the sense in this? Hey ho!

On the other hand, creation and nature are such, that they run their own course, evolve and interact with other aspects of nature, creation and human activity. A tornado isn't intrinsically a bad thing. It's just a tornado. It blows. If one happens to build something in its path and it gets destroyed, you can't blame the tornado or the one that created such in the first place.
God doesn't stop rain or wind because of what might happen.

I remember when this was a blog about the Manson commune.

The Manson COMMUNE?

The key is the word 'communal'. I have lived in more than one commune (all of which fizzled and frazzled) and my experience has been that EVERYTHING has to be communal - no ownership, no hierarchy, no authority, no leader. From information generally available CM led the family like some sort of harem, ruling through fear, and his leadership bordered more on the despotic, not to say fascist.

All blogs run out of steam. In discussing the MF we are rehashing events more than half a century old and it is not surprising if once in a while we take a side turning. But we always come back. Anyone not happy with that can always take their bucket and spade and find another beach to play on for a while.

Thanks, Proteus. Keep in mind you're answering someone who thought Wizardpoop was a clever name but I appreciate you regardless.

Anyone interested in writing for the blog should contact Matt today. I'm 42k words short of a Feb. 1st deadline in the real world and need the time anyway.

Trolls aren't writers tho so I know we'll have no takers. All that lonely alone eats them up until they're left with nothing but single sentence hot takes in the wee hours following endless, empty Christmases.

For me, it's all solved. The crimes happened because America puts unwanted little boys into cages until their incarceration experiences drive them insane. Everything else in this story is exposition.

I don't believe anyone worshipped the devil, was brainwashed, knew Jolly West, saw three eyed babies, dropped Bruce Lee's glasses, partied the night before with Patty Montgomery, touched talking rattlesnakes on their tails, brought little birds back to life, and most of the other things people tell me someone else hipped them to when I open Messenger for more than five minutes at a time. As a result, I'm kind of out of ideas on a weekly basis lol.

I've made my friends here and in the meantime earned unfettered access to several remaining key players from back then. One thing no one ever mentions is how much they love dipshits from other Manson teams taking potshots in the comments section here or even the dipshits' great knowledge of the truth as it applies to the Manson "commune."

I should ask next time.

Proteus, I'd love to hear about commune living if you're interested...

Proteus, that’s one narrative your paying attention too. I think commune can be applicable. GreenWhite, wizardpoop? Learn to read. And write for that matter.

Without wishing to put fat on the fire, there is quite a strong connection between Joan Didion and Linda Kasabian in that Ms Didion bought the outfit Linda wore for her first day on trial.

Milly - This is from the same kid who made a song called Mr. Manson that's interesting. Off topic but he also has a song about titled Shelley Duvall and the young woman playing Shelley is dressed like her. Your comment brought the video to mind.

GreenWhite - Link not working but I will look it up. Cheers!

Just a general note about throwing stones in glass houses: If one can write in a professional manner, one should know the difference between the abbreviation 'you're' for 'you are' and the possessive pronoun 'your'. Thank you. The Pedant of Powis.

While I get where you're coming from, this was just one of those Christmas sidetracks that seems to occur some years.
Peter did ask Did the Manson Family celebrate 🎄 Christmas?
Asking the important questions.
in another thread that no one answered, although in the main Christmas thread, Leary7 asks the same sort of question and Gorodish gives an interesting insight. Always cool to hear from those three.

As a kid, for me, it was both, and Dave's teeth {and his crazy platforms}. And Noddy's mirror top hat. They were one of those bands that was so visual, yet, totally aural ~ if you heard them, you knew it was them straight away. Now, all these years on, it's the whole musical package. Some of Jim Lea's basslines are insane, especially "tak me bak 'ome." That's one I wished I'd come up with, or stolen and adapted, like Charlie Manson did with the Black Muslims, Krishna Venta or whatever his name was, Robert Heinlein, the Beatles, etc.
There you go, Wiz, bringing it all back home to the topic of the Family !

Milly - Perhaps my most crowning achievement of 2021 was being placed in the top 1% of Hank Williams the first on Spotify lol.

Fun fact did you know that like Charlie, Hank's sister was arrested crossing the US border at Laredo from Mexico? Hank's sister was caught with over $6M in coke in 1969 USD. They likely counted every half sniff but that's a big bag of dope regardless!
