Great footage. Poor Garretson looks nearly catatonic. We often mention unanswered questions we each have. For me, it's whether Krenwinkle actually tried to enter the guest house. Lights were on, dog(s?) were there, but he was spared. Although I live in LA, I'd never been out to Spahn. Finally went just this morning. It was peaceful and quiet out there -- really beautiful with all of the natural rock formations. Easy to find the "cave." Having seen the area now in person, I can't believe the brazenness of murdering Shorty in such an open area. It's right across from the Garden of the Gods hiking location. While the housing development up Redmesa Road wasn't there in 1969, it certainly was not remote.
"Lights were on, dog(s?) were there, but he was spared."
William Garretson claims he heard the dogs bark later:
From the trial transcripts:
MR. FITZGERALD: ... I am in possession of what purports to be a transcript of an interview with Mr. Garretson at 4:25 pm, on August 10th, 1969, where this witness was asked about the events that took place on August 8th and 9th. He stated in connection with questions about dogs barking that: “It was about 2 or 3 hours after he left,” referring to Steven Parent, “somewhere around there, that is when I looked out in the yard....” ... The importance of the dogs barking is that they may signal or herald the arrival on the scene of the persons who perpetrated the events.
Hi ColScott -- with respect to Shorty, I meant that the area on Santa Susana Pass where he was hit with the wrench/pipe and attacked, is right on the main road. Out in the open for any passerby to see. (Sorry, didn't mean to conflate the location of the cave with the area where Shorty was murdered)
the evidence supports the idea that Garretson was a rent boy who was servicing Rudi and doing general chores to stay in the back. Parent clearly visited for a gay "tryst" and was murdered minutes after leaving the back house. What always stood out for me is that never once did Garretson "Oh I maybe thought that all the noise was Steven trying to return to pick up something he forgot or couldn't find." Right? You hear a commotion MINUTES after your assignation has left for the night and you go full lockdown mode? What is that about? The default position isn't "Oh shit I wonder if four maniacs are slaughtering the rich people up front?" The default is "I wonder what Steven wants?" Also don't get me started on going to sleep after all of that ....
But you know life is weird so who can say? Two roommates were in the house for 8 hours, saw Kohberger who took out FOUR housemates but went to sleep. People are strange, when you're a stranger

Garretson was described as 'stuporous and non-responsive' the next day, so I have always suspected he may have been hepped up on goofballs the night before, which may have affected his hearing and movements.
Defies common sense and logic (yes I know, not always applicable in this case) to think that Billy fell asleep at any time that night/morning save MAYBE from sheer exhaustion from no earlier than 6 or 7 am onwards. Until then he was huddled in a cupboard scared to death, developing his full blown PTSD and hoping he would wake up from a bad dream. I think it's more likely he was pretending to be asleep when the cops arrived. Again, petrified that someone might still be around and the slow gearing in his mind realising that 'Shit, if I go out there, I'm going to fry for those bodies on the lawn.'
Off topic: The second "Shocking Thing " at the following link tells about Sharon's appearances on The Beverly Hillbillies. According to the bot, she played Janet Trego and appeared in 15 episodes. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B0ClENT27o0

The Shorty site is quite far from the cave

Yeah, ColScott, the 'tryst' has been my assumption, too. And equally baffled by the lack of response to noise/sounds.

Col, I am curious. You state:
"...the evidence supports the idea that Garretson was a rent boy who was servicing Rudi..."
and
"Parent clearly visited for a gay "tryst"..."
On what factual evidence is this based? Any links would be helpful.

David did some incredible work looking into Steve Parent's short life:

Thanks for the links, Matt! Really interesting pieces and great research.
Dr. Yorsten has done many videos on other public figures. So, FWIW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V9kWaNyqm8
