L.A. in the Time of Charles Manson (Full version)

It was announced July 14th that the above documentary was an honoree at the Webby Awards.  Deb found the whole film on YouTube.  It was sort of interesting, there were a couple of things that I didn't know but most was SSDD.  The music and vintage LA scenery were very good.

One drawback is that Shreck is in it, just three short blips though.  Pamala DeBarre is in it as are the reporters from back in the day, Rona Barrett, Stephen Kay, of course. Jakobson, too.

At the end of the docu there is an interview with Michael Brunner.

I thought was well done but why does Rona Barrett say she got death threats? Was she invited to the party at Cielo that night too?

I've looked through vintage newspaper articles and there are none telling of a death threat to Ms. Barrett by anyone. She did tell Variety in 2010 that there was a death threat.

This tough bird, survivor of a rare form of childhood muscular dystrophy, claims to have been the first journalist on the scene at the Sharon Tate murder house in 1969, and the recipient of a death threat leading, as she tells it, to the grave wounding of her bodyguard by Manson follower Tex Watson.

I'm not sure how Tex could have gravely wounded her bodyguard because he was in Texas until his extradition later in 1970. So, Barrett's assertion is like the many people who said that they were invited to the "party" and the many people who said they beat up Manson.

Entertaining- the tape recording was something I hadn’t seen/heard before. Thanks for posting, Matt!

I hope Stephen Kay writes a book, not so much about Manson, etc. but about Bittaker and Norris. I would like to read a book by Sandi Gibbons, I bet she's seen a lot.

I think I hate Brenda most of all. If she were smart, pretty, or funny it would excuse her being such a self righteous, know it all bitch. But she's not any of those things. She's the dumbest of the bunch and that's pretty fucking dumb.

Maybe interesting what Randy Star & Mary Brunner had to say on that Tape @ 21:27 Their names are written on left side of the Jean Stapleton Cassette C60 Tape interview at Spahn Ranch

Viewing the post feature interview with Michael Brunner, I was surprised (or unaware) he has now, at age @50, developed a different perspective on the events of '69, his mother and especially his old man (CM). While I can understand some of it the rest is a little chilling. Will future generations have a revisionist history experience and put the whole affair in a positive light ?

I have updated the Suzan LeBarge's Daughter Murdered post with links to a couple of GoFundMe pages created for Ariana and her son by her sister Rommi.

I believe that Leslie's next parole hearing is scheduled for today. I wonder if there will be any ruling on the Tex Tapes.

cielodrivecom said...

The parole board has nothing to do with the tapes

Matthew said...

I know. I am just saying if there would be any ruling on the tapes to allow the board and us to see transcripts of them.

The attorney general has until Monday to file an answer with Cal Supreme Court re Van Houten's. They punted her last petition so I'm not sure they will grant a review

I never saw that interview. Seems at that time cm was on the path to bettering himself. What happened
