Join Dr. Steven Hassan, leading expert on cults LIVE on Monday, October 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM Eastern, for an in-depth conversation with Keith Wattley, attorney for Patricia Krenwinkel, a former Charles Manson follower recommended for parole after 56 years in prison. Pat Krewinkel is currently California's longest serving inmate.
As Governor Gavin Newsom prepares to decide whether to uphold or reverse her 2025 parole grant, Dr. Hassan will unpack how coercive control, psychological manipulation, and cult mind control shaped Patricia’s actions as a 21-year-old under Manson’s brainwashing and how decades of rehabilitation, trauma recovery, and accountability have changed her life.

Krenwinkel July 17, 1978 Parole Hearing Transcript
MR. S. DANA GILBERT, Attorney for Krenny: "... the State in the form of the prosecution will not let the people forget that they were part of the Manson family. And it doesn’t matter if you try to break away. You will not be allowed, not by Manson, but by the State, by Chief Davis, by the District Attorney’s office, you will not be allowed to forget that you were part of the Manson family. And everything you do is because you’re a part of the Manson family. .... Don’t you think we’ve had enough of this? It’s been almost eight years now."
Come on, people! It's been almost eight years now! .... oh wait....
It's always a bad idea to participate in one of the crimes of the century. People remember.
Any word on what is happening with Van Houten?
She seems to have sunk without a ripple...
The thought of any of these mutants getting released after what they participated in is plain repulsive!

She can now sit in her cell and lament about her poor aching arthritic hands that are frozen & damaged like a claw from hitting all those pesky bones that were in the way of her stabbing technique!
Asinine to think you are harshly judged because you were once part of a murderous Family. Um, that's when the crimes were committed. And you were gloating about it. Battered slaves don't sing and dance down court hallways during their trial. Yes, notoriety has worked against you, but you helped create that with your actions.
Is Patricia wearing a wig in the 56 years later photo?
