Happy Birthday, Panamint Patty!

MANSON: AN ORAL HISTORY

This is an anniversary article done forty years after everything that took place in 1969.  It is a condensed version of those times, written from 2009 interviews with the various players in the saga.  Some of the people who were interviewed are Michael McGann, Danny Galindo, Bill Gleason and James Pursell from law enforcement. Others are Bill Garretson, Vincent Bugliosi, Warren Beatty, Martin Ransohff, and Anthony Di Maria.  From the Family there's Juan Flynn, Barbara Hoyt and Catherine Share.

Emmett Harder's Gold Record

The caption reads:  Devore, Calif. - 12/6/69 - A GIFT FROM CHARLES MANSON - Gerald Harder, 15, and his father, Emmett, of Devore, hold Beach Boys' golden record they say they received through Charles Manson, alleged leader of hippie band charged with the murder of Sharon Tate and six others.  Harder said Manson family worked for him at his Death Valley mine during the latter part of '68.  AP Wirephoto

The title of this gold record is "All Summer Long" and is not the same gold record that was given to Mrs. Arlene Barker.  According to Bugliosi, 1994, page 180, her record was "The Beach Boys Today".

Oh no you didn't, Cupid!

Here I am again, finding myself posting thoughts about things I know absolutely nothing about. There are so many more people out in TLB land that are so much more knowledgeable than I about anything, and everything TLB. With that in mind, please forgive me for repeating things that have already been studied, thought about, probed, researched, AND.....posted on other sites perhaps. What am I talking about, you ask? I am talking about an unidentified, young lady who was murdered, and dumped in/around the area Mr. Cupid was arrested. I started thinking about this while looking around the Jane Doe network website, and looking at Jane Doe 59. My eyes then came across this other young lady, and happen to notice the time frame, and the method of how she was killed. Could she have been a victim of Bobby Beausoleil? What would of been the purpose of him murdering a young woman? I do not think that he would of done such a thing, but you never know. Here are some of the facts:

1.) He killed Gary Hinman on July 27th of 69
2.) He was found, and arrested in the general vicinity, not close, by not far (over 50 miles)
3.) She was estimated to be killed on/around July 29th of 69
4.) She was found bound, stabbed repeatedly, and had her throat cut, which seemed to happen to quite a few people in the general vicinity of Manson's friends.

Here is the link from the Jane Doe Network:

Again, I know this is "old news" in TLB land, so please forgive me for bringing it up again. I am truly a TLB novice, so give me a chance to catch up with TLB virtuosos, such as Matt & the Col!

Guillermo Soledad

From a recent festival brochure:

"Guillermo Yuscaran (William Lewis) is both a writer and primitivist painter. He  currently resides in Santa Lucia, a small village outside of Tegucigalpa. A former Fulbright scholar, he holds a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. His work has appeared in major publications in the US, Canada, Latin America and Europe. Exhibitions of his paintings have been held in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Belize, as well as the US. He has authored numerous books, including GRINGOS IN HONDURAS, VELASQUEZ: THE MAN AND HIS ART, POINTS OF LIGHT, and BLUE PARIAH."

And..."My Life with Charles Manson" because as esteemed reader Kimchi has discovered, Guillermo Yuscaran, aka William Lewis, is also Guillermo Soledad! Thanks, Kimchi! This has been driving Patty nuts for years.

While "Guillermo Soledad" means "William Sunshine" in spanish, "Yuscaran" is the name of a historic village which is significant because it was one of the first places in Honduras to get electricity in 1898- even before Tegucigalpa. It is the home of the national drink, "guaro." In 1977, Guillermo submitted an article to Ms. Magazine using the pseudonym "Francisca Yuscaran," which was published. This is when he started using the name in earnest, according to a documentary you can view at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN0FOcRdsPA.

A nice quote from this video: "When you think you have the answers, they actually turn out to be bigger questions. And that's success...that means we are evolving in the right way: when our answers turn back into questions again."

There is also a video about his art at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL_tm9lR8UE. Guillermo's paintings are colorful and interesting, and reasonably priced at waves-of-art.com:

"To enter the world of Guillermo Yuscaran’s paintings, it is essentially to enter a rich dream-world. Indeed, the figure of a man sleeping and dreaming appears in many of the paintings, and as the conscious mind recedes, the landscape of magic and symbol emerges, and reigns in a transparency of wholeness and peace. Guillermo has been called a primitivist, the idealized Honduran village is a central theme, a landscape of great tranquility, but the Yuscaran range is much greater and radiates a quality of emotion and passion.

Guillermo Yuscaran, William Lewis, was raised and nurtured in California. The Pacific coast Buddhism, the radical openness at the end of the long American trail of the westward passage, is a formative influence of the writer-artist. The unique isolation and freedom of Honduras has allowed his art to emerge and flourish. Honduras is as important to him as Tahiti was to Gauguin. He first came to Honduras in 1972. Since then, he has distinguished himself in both art and literature."

Guillermo is one interesting dude.

Sharon Tribute Video

Looks like this was done by someone who's first language is not English. Still has some nice pics of not just Sharon, but the entire family. There was one part that made me laugh really loud. My bet is that you can guess which part it was.

Marina Habe's Murder, Maury Terry

This article, written in 1988 was recently brought to our attention by one of our readers who goes by the name of Goomba.  It was written by Michael Bendrix whose father married Marina Habe's mother about three years after Marina's murder.  It is an interesting read as it touches on Maury Terry's "Ultimate Evil", on Terry himself, on the murder of Roy Radin and on the murder of Marina, the author's stepmother's only child.

"Marina Habe’s body was found on New Year’s Day, 1969, by a dog. The body had been tossed to the bottom of a ravine off Mulholland Drive, and when police arrived, the dog’s owner said he wanted to be sure his name got in the paper.

Every detail of Marina’s murder and the time on either side of it left some sliver of absurdity. She was 17, coming home alone late at night from a date, got to her driveway and then, as her mother watched from a window—awakened by the sound of a racing engine and not knowing whether the man standing beside her daughter’s car was friend or foe—disappeared into another car. The coroner said she was held for a day, fed, raped, and stabbed."

Update! The House At The End Of The Drive

We seek to raise funds for a L.A. Sneak Peak of
“HOUSE AT THE END OF THE DRIVE” on August 7, 2013.

The Anniversary of the Manson Murders August 9th.

Ghost stories…  We’ve heard them for decades and they’re a dime a dozen in Hollywood where every mansion and storefront has a link to a restless spirit.   But can a thirty-six year old murder haunt four people enough to rip open a doorway to the past and catapult them back in time to a horrible night of ritual slaughter?  It can if they live two doors down from the House at the End of the Drive.
In part based on the actual experiences of its producer who lives near the site of the original Sharon Tate murder house of 1969, House at the End of the Drive is a terrifying horror thriller about a group of people who live near a famous murder site and via a time vortex, are then transported back to the night of the original killings.  The twist: they materialize as the soon-to-be victims of the massacre.
