Sad how Diane was basically let go by her parents at 14 like an unwanted stray puppy. In the interview she actually laments not being arrested and taken away from the Family's nightmarish escapade. I never felt that hippies really cared about people. They seemed to be hedonistic and shallow. Being 13 in 1970 I can remember an America before hippies ruined it. it was a fabulous place yet they describe America as such an evil country. I think the Manson Family was a microcosim of the hippie movement as a whole. Hippies were basically a Bohemian Al Queada bent on destroying America. I think they succeeded.

Hippies were a useless people. They certainly tried to ruin it. I'm not sure they succeeded.

Not ALL hippies are useless. It takes all kinds or what you end up with is tyranny, yes?

Nelson was a terrible interviewer. Just shut up and let her talk already!

i think hippies had the right idea about lots of things but they never got anything done because all they did was smoke pot and play music all day. theres nothing wrong with either of those things but if they had their priorities right they would have spent most of their time trying to make their 'ideals' a reality not just talking about them becoming reality.

it gave me the impression she dipped out on her own wanting and her parents were like- whatever.
go find yourself.
her parents sounded like hippies too. it was the 60's, some took advantage of it by ditching their kids.
she didn't seem to remember a lot from the beginning with the Family. she mentioned nothing much about the murders. heAlter skelter, zero.

nelson was so damn slap happy he was getting this recorded phone conversation with Dianne, he didn't even ask. BUT he asks how she got the name Snake? idiot.

or maybe she said from the beginning that she wouldn't talk about certain things.

stupid Nelson.
if I had her on the phone i would have asked a lot more T&L, also info about Gary Hinman, Shorty,Zero and Crowe.

I second or third that Nelson should have just shut up and let her talk. It seems that he constantly interrupted her just as she was getting her flow of thoughts running. She seemed incredibly genuine though and her story is fascinating. Kudos to her for sharing.

I'm reading Diane's book in early 2018 and gave this a listen. As with every other Nelson interview, he makes himself the focus of piece and giggles his way into Creepville. What a turd. Diane even asks him to stop cutting her off at one point. This interview is pretty much dead-on what she's saying in the book. Makes me wonder if she already had an outline.
