Where have you gone, Mark Fuhrman?

Wouldn't it be something if an author with a bonafide background in detective work who has a history of investigating and solving high profile cold cases decided to pick up all of these pieces laid out here in the Manson blogosphere and get into that LA evidence vault to solve all of this once and for all and publish his findings?

Like with (the grown up) Michael Skakel, who committed the Martha Moxley murder in 1975 and was brought to justice after Fuhrman's book in 2002 - attention would be turned back onto the (elderly) Manson Family.

The unindicted conspirators in Labianca and Shea would be put back on the stand to answer the as of yet unanswered questions.

Unsolved murders like Marina Habe, Jane Doe #59,  Clyda Dulaney, Nancy Warren, James Sharp, Doreen Gaul, Filippo Tenerelli, Darwin Scott, Karl Stubbs, Mark Walts and possibly even more would be brought into the public consciousness. ZERO???

Testimony in the new wave of trials would include among scores of others Tex Watson, Bruce Davis, Mary Brunner, Steve Grogan, Sherry Cooper, Cathy Gillies, Gregg Jakobson, Roman Polanski (under duress and via satellite, of course) and even Nick Sand (was there a Brotherhood of Eternal Love connection via people in Santa Barbara and Gary Hinman?).

TV ratings would be through the roof - not to mention the stats on the blogs.

Sgt Dostie and Buster would get their well deserved 12 foot deep pandora's box dig. This time with network coverage.

C'mon Fuhrman, what else have you got to do? They did cancel your radio show. Read the books, go through the evidence, read the forums & watch the DVD's. We'll even help you (HA!). Then write another book and let's see if there are more trials. But please, get it done before Bugliosi and Charlie check out - we'll need them to spar as expert analysts on truTV!

Q&A Power Wagons

Panamint Patty asked - There were three power wagons in The Family: one is now at Ballarat, one is at Barker's. What happened to the third?

Power Wagon at Barker Ranch.

Q&A

Anonymous is wondering if anyone remembers a family that may have been involved with the Manson Family and lived with them in the desert. The woman's name was Patricia, her husband at the time went by Ralph, Ralph Angel, or Refugio Ojeda. Pat may have also used the last name Arnold.  Ralph was Hispanic, was originally from Texas, and had an affinity for young girls. They had four children together three boys (the youngest had an unusual first name and would have been 3 to 4 years old in 1968/69), and one girl (the youngest). Pat had several daughters by other men, some may have been with them. They were involved with Scientology and had lived in various areas of California, Oregon and Washington. If anyone remembers them, please get in touch. It could be important.

The Gram Parsons Connection

from http://seeker401.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/laurel-canyon-part-14/

Parsons had first met up with the Stones when they were in Los Angeles in the summer of 1968 to mix their Beggar's Banquet album. Also hooking up with the Stones around that same time was Phil Kaufman, a recently-released prison buddy of Charlie Manson. Kaufman initially lived with the Manson Family after being released in March of 1968, and he thereafter remained what Kaufman himself described as a "sympathetic cousin" to Charlie.

His Flying Burrito Brothers released their second album, Burrito Deluxe...By June, Parsons had been booted out of the band, reportedly due to chronic alcohol and drug abuse. He quickly signed with A&M Records and was partnered with our old friend Terry Melcher. Gram became a regular visitor to Melcher’s Benedict Canyon home, where the self-destructive pair worked on songs together, with Gram on guitar and Melcher on piano. John Phillips became a close associate of Parsons at this time as well. In late October of 1970, Gram went to A&M and signed out the master tapes of ten songs that he had recorded with Melcher; those tapes were never seen or heard again, as seems to happen from time-to-time with recordings made with Melcher. During roughly that same period of time, Parsons was busted with a briefcase full of prescription drugs.

There are many who claim, by the way, that the musicians under examination in this series were relentlessly persecuted by agents of the state, ostensibly to silence their voices of protest. But if that is true, then why is it that on more than one occasion when the state seems to have had solid evidence of crimes that could bring prison time, no action was taken? ... John Phillips, busted for wholesale trafficking of pharmaceuticals, was, by his own account, "looking at forty-five years and got thirty days." He began serving his sentence on April 20, appropriately enough, and served just twenty-four days – in a minimum security prison.

As July of 1973 rolled around, a series of tragedies befell Parsons and the people around him... According to Fong-Torres, "Around the same time that Clarence White was killed, Sid Kaiser, a familiar face in the Los Angeles rock scene, a close friend of Gram's and, not so incidentally, a source of high-quality drugs, died of a heart attack." Just after those two deaths, "In late July 1973 … [Gram’s] house in Laurel Canyon burned down."

How Gram Parsons died is anyone's guess. There are as many versions of the event as there were witnesses to it....Details of the incident – such as how long Gram had been left alone, whether he was still alive when discovered, who made that discovery, etc. – were wildly inconsistent in the accounts of Fisher, McElroy, and Frank and Alan Barbary (the Inn's owner and his son, who were also witnesses, and whose accounts conflicted both with each other and with the girls' accounts).
At the hospital, police spoke briefly with the two girls and then released them. Within two hours, Phil Kaufman was on the scene to pick up Fisher and McElroy. Bypassing the police and the hospital, Kaufman went directly to the Inn, which the girls had returned to, and quickly hustled them straight back to LA. Police never spoke to either of the women again, despite the conflicting accounts and the open question of what exactly it was that killed Gram.

On the autumnal equinox of 1973, Kaufman and Martin, driving a dilapidated hearse provided by McElroy, arrived at LAX to claim the body of Gram Parsons. Apparently no one, including the police officer who was nearby, found it at all unusual that two drunken, disheveled men in an obviously out-of-service hearse (it had no license plates and several broken windows) had arrived without any paperwork to claim the body of a deceased celebrity. In fact, according to Kaufman’s dubious account, the cop even helped the pair load the casket into the hearse – and then looked the other way when Martin slammed the hearse into a wall on the way out of the hangar. Kaufman and Martin then drove the body back out to Joshua Tree, doused it with gasoline and set it ablaze.

The Netflix Companion: Six Degrees of Helter Skelter

Your host for this edition of the Netflix companion is Mr. Scott Michaels. He is the fascinating founder of FindADeath.com and DearlyDepartedTours.com and has been a serious Mansonologist since 1994. Some of  the places Scott will show you along the way (in addition to the crime scenes at Cielo, Waverly and Old Topanga Canyon Road) include:

Jay Sebring's home which was built by Jean Harlow's husband Paul Bern in 1930. It is also where Mr. Bern died under "mysterious circumstances" in 1932. The current owners, Dr. Ron Hall and his wife Maggie, bought the home in 1970 and have been there, ever since. They do not report any paranormal oo-EE-oo, despite Sharon's supposed "premonition" there in 1967.

Dennis Wilson's home which is also where Will Rodgers once lived. It is still standing, though it was being renovated at the time of filming. Michaels mentions that Clem wrecked Dennis' uninsured Mercedes, but Patty remembers it being a red sportscar, no?

Voytek and Gibby's home which is not directly across the street from Mama Cass', as is stated in Helter Skelter. Rather, the properties back up to one another. The Falcon's Lair, where Rudolph Valentino lived, and which has a birdseye view of Cielo Drive from across the canyon. Michaels explains which houses were there in 1969, including the one Winnie Chapman ran to for help. Places where Lotsapoppa, Saladin Nader, Rudy Weber, Steven Weiss, and Susan LaBerge lived.

Jack Jones' home which was creepy crawled. Jack was a singer most widely known for the theme from "The Love Boat." Things were moved around in the house, and Jack's cowboy hat went missing. Michael asserts that Jack later found out that the crawlers stuck around in the bushes to watch him come home and only left after police arrived to take a report.

The LA County Coroner where Chief Craig Harvey deciphers publicly available coroner's reports on all the known victims, and finally, Barker Ranch before and after the fire. Patty really enjoyed Michaels' take on everything and thanks to Ken, she recognized a lot of the places she's never been.

Q&A: Bill Vances' role in Shorty Shea's murder

 David Lee Hamic
aka Bill Vance

Hello Liz,

Longtime lurker here with a question.

Has anyone ever discussed Bill Vances' role in Shorty Shea's murder?

In this link Bruce Davis places a bloody knife in his hands:
http://www.cielodrive.com/bruce-davis-parole-hearing-2010.php

I don't think I've ever read anything about his role. I know in VB's Helter Skelter book he says Shorty's murder was a family affair with others cleaning up the scene, his burial and driving his car off but I don't remember Vance being accused of being an active participant in the murder. Am I wrong? The statement is about halfway through the proceedings when a Comminsoner calls BS on Bruce.

Follow-up to Handwriting Analysis: The Chandler Blvd. House

The Grump from Pahrump has graciously filled us in on what the Chandler Boulevard address on Charlie's application for a gasoline credit card was (see http://www.eviliz.com/2012/06/ready-manson-handwriting-analysis.html ). He writes:

"Here is some info on the Chandler Street House in Question.  It comes from Phil's book, Road Mangler Deluxe.  Good book, lots of info on Manson, A Joint Venture, and the Lie Album. It has a picture of Harold True in it, as well as info on the house next to the LaBiancas.
If you buy it from his website, he autographs the book to you, and you get the autographed card.

Phil was arrested twice for smuggling marijuana. He produced the Manson Family's album, "Lie" under the business name of "A Joint Venture." Notice in the top photo he was at Terminal Island, which is where Charlie also was before being released in 1967. Harold True is confirmed by Phil as having been a resident of the Chandler Blvd. house.  All of these people thought that they were starting a revolution. Does anyone else find this significant besides Patty?
